Re: Carbo mask camo
Use it all the time and prefer it over a face mask or gloves. Goes on quickly and comes off easily with makeup wipes. Only con for me is ease of forgetting I have it on and walking into the convenience store.

Lowland Merriams suggestions please
I haven’t hunted with them personally, but have seen several good reviews of Hitlist Outfitters in Southern Colorado. They claim a wide range of terrain and accessibility for the lands they lease.

Re: Sock suggestions
Years ago, on the advice of a skier, I started wearing two pairs of socks, both summer and winter. Wear a pair of thin polypropylene socks as a base layer and a wool-blend sock over them. I vary the weight and thickness of the wool-blend depending on the season and temperature. The polypro wicks mo...

Mule deer, Coues Whitetail, elk, pronghorn, desert bighorn, African orxy, Persian ibex, Barbary sheep, javelina, are all available, ...although most are by drawing. .. ay, there's the rub. No point system in our tag lottery, so inevitably some will beat the odds and others will be on the other tail...

Re: dumb question recoil reduction
A good option for him in TSS might be Federal's 3" 1 3/4 oz load in 9s. That should drop the recoil by about 1/3.

Re: Wandering zero
This is an interesting thread and something that isn't talked about much. I do wonder about the inherent ballistic accuracy of any of these loads and have come more and more convinced over the years that they aren't typically better than a couple of inches in any direction at 40 yards. So maybe not ...

Re: Quiet slate pot call
Any good slate should be able to run soft. A Lonzo bird's eye maple slate would be a good choice. I only condition slate with Scotch-Brite, so can't help you there. Biggest difference for me is the choice of striker. I have a Fowler dogwood striker that runs real nice for softer stuff on slate. I li...

LOL, above I believe. He lived in Smith’s Ferry. He did most of his hunting before I was born, but I remember his lab Pepper very well. I used to hunt the CT too, before moving out here, but I won’t say where.

Re: Safety location
Grew up shooting side-by-sides and over-unders, so top tang safety for me, followed by rear trigger guard. Some of those Remington rear trigger guard safeties are real noisy though. Hate that DOINK, so have to use two fingers to slide it quietly for turkeys. Agree on the Greener. Worst ever.

Late season ducks and pheasants
Managed to get out for a couple of late season hunts this month. The weather warmed up for a couple of good duck hunts here in New Mexico. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4918/45838890895_5460563544_o_d.jpg The decoys are hand-me-downs from my grandfather and started out as a Herter's black duck set ...

Re: Hi Everybody
Welcome. This is a friendly and helpful place. Lived on a farm in Tompkins county for a number of years in the 1980s. Wish I had known something about turkey hunting back then cause there was a ton of them, but still did a lot of deer and upland bird hunting, and fishing in that area as well as the ...
