Re: Stevens 301 Fiber Sights?

I put a NECG peep sight on the rear and one of those clip on fiber beads from an 870 on the front. I needed the higher front sight to bring the pattern down so I could center it. No issues that I can think of but mine is only a 410.

Re: Winchester Longbeard XR

According to my lyman book at 1200 fps they will be going 600fps at 60 yards with 1.6 ft/lbs of energy. It didn't go down to 1050 fps but my guess is they would be going 550fps with 1.3 ft/lbs of energy. This is for number 6 shot.

Maybe someone with a ballistic program will chime in.

Re: .410 870 fixed full threaded for chokes

I have that same gun. With lead it gives great patterns for dove and quail. With tss it gives great patterns (140+ at 40yards #9tss) for turkey. Not sure what you would be shooting for ducks but if it is tss I think it would be too tight a pattern unless you are only shooting 40+ yards. I might be w...

Re: 410 Stevens

I put a NECG peep on mine with a true glow bead from my 870 on the bead end. I was able to get it centered at 40 yards that way. I am not a fan of electronics on my shotguns so that was my way of dealing with it. I could have gone with a scope but I did not want to add the weight. If I could find a ...

Southpaw here, OG and castboolits. Jerry Jr. on trapperman since I don't know how to follow instructions (I am not the only one). I am sure that I signed up on other sites but I do not go on them any more.

Not real active on them, mostly just drunk post. And read when I am not drunk. Bottoms up!

On a side note, my brother has one like that. It is a 410/45-70. It has a bit of a snap with the 45-70. Haven't played any with the 410 tho.

410 wad observation.

I noticed that the last 1/4-3/8" does not have the dimples in it. Is this from set back? Probably would have never noticed but I look at the wads if I can find them. Mostly looking to see if there is any problems such as shot sticking in them. Noticed the ends of the petals have no dimples in t...

Nailed it. 410 301T

3014109.5tss.jpg My brother and his girlfriend bought me a 301T 410 last year for my birthday. Figured I better get it ready. I tried Shooters 410 load with tss 9. Only put about 105 in the 10" at 40 yards. It was also 8" or so low. Put a peep site on it and a true glow on the front and g...

Re: Shell suggestion?

Personally I would I would go with a 1.25 oz load of #9 tss. It would be safe in your gun and would have a pattern that would kill past your limit. Should even give a good pattern at closer range in your gun. If not then just go with your nitro or golden pheasant loads. Your pattern of the 1 ounce 7...

Re: Sights for 301

I put this one on mine. Now I am 8" high. The clip on front bead that came on a 870 that I have fit over the front bead area on the 301t and sits higher than the bead. Gonna try that and see where I am hitting.

Re: Stevens 301 stock xtra full choke?

With the factory choke I got ~105 with 9 shot. Switched to 9.5 shot and the numbers went to ~150. All shots were at 40 yards. I guess it will have to work for this year since there won't be any chokes available for awhile.

Here is a gobbler striker. The double pegs are used to gobble on a slate. The other end has a single peg tuned for fighting purrs. The fella that made it sounded pretty good with it. I never have. I think it was Jim Young of wing bone reknown, but it was maybe twenty years ago, so... I have a strik...

Congrats! It is posts like this that show me that it is possible. My wife and I have been together for 17 years and married for just shy of 13. High school sweethearts. I guess we are defying the status quo of our generation.

Any chance you got a turkey this year to put in that?

Re: Left eye dominant and right handed

The triangle things works to some extent but is not the best way. I like to have them point at my nose. I stand back (15-20') and tell them to look at my nose and keep their hands at their side. I have them put both pointer fingers straight out pointing at the ground. While they are looking at my no...

Re: dumb question recoil reduction

A few things you can do to reduce recoil would be:

Increase the weight of the gun,
Reduce the payload,
Reduce the velocity.

It wouldn't hurt to get the gun fitted to the shooter either. Combine that with a 1.5-1.75oz load going no more than 1200fps and recoil should be manageable.

You need to talk to who ever you got the shot from. They can help you alter the load.

The rest of us do not know the details. We can just guess.

A few of my most memorable.

First would be my first one. My old stevens pump with 1.25 oz #6 shot reloads. Shot at about 25 yards at fly down. He ran right to me in the woods. Next would be watching my Dad shoot his first. Not much calling but more setting up in front of him. He got him. Double beard. Then he did it again. Sca...

Re: 3" vs 3.5"

Nope. It is both. My 410 puts 130-150 in the ten at 40, my 20 280-320 and my 12 puts more than I am gonna count. If my memory is right, #9 at 1200fps will kill at 70 ish yards. I have no plan at shooting that far. The 410, though traveling the same speed, has very little chance of killing a bird at ...

They also offer a 2.75" 2 oz load that is going faster than the other two. I guess what it comes down to is that 2 oz load will have a killing pattern well past 40 but the 2.5 oz load will have a better one. If I am spending a bunch of money on a hunt, I know what shell I am taking. However, I ...

Re: Finally bought some TSS

I should have gotten into the tss game many years ago, but, I was getting patterns with my lead reloads that would kill at 50 yards or so. That was out of a 835 2oz. I dove into tss with a 20ga and it blew my mind. My 40 yard targets were way better than my 30 lead factory load targets. Then I tried...
