Re: Temporary Setback On my .410 Build.
Did you try using your thigh as a fulcrum to open it? I've had to do that with some guns at times.

Lot of folks pulled for CC, including me, but several triple crown winners won against big fields of fresh horses. That's why the TC is rare and there are only 11 winners The owner of CC needs to get over it. He lost.

Chanterelle season begins
We had a lot of rain this week and temps are rising so I was wondering if the chants would be popping out. Went to an easy to check spot this afternoon and was glad to see they are out. They'll be around through September. Gil http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m278/photo205/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-06...

WW, I first heard "sac-a-lait" many years ago on a 3-day pass from Fort Polk. I went sac-a-lait fishing on Toledo Bend and night-fished the still standing tree tops of the reservoir and caught the crappie out of them. Gil

Re: Double bow kill
Give the man credit. To kill turkeys with a noisy band playing loud music in the tent and moving around like Miss Nelson's kindergarten class, that's quite an accomplishment. He must have a high level of concentration not to mention that he was able to fit inside the tent with the band and camera cr...

The deer flies soften you up for the horse flies. At least the horse flies are bigger targets to swat and not nearly as plentiful as deer flies.

My Savage 220B .410 is a foot and a half low at 40. The Yildiz was dead on. POI/POA issues are resolved with a red dot. Someone else's eyeball might be dead on. Not to worry. Gil

Not bad for a gun that weighs 3 lbs., 3 oz. That's a bona fide 50 yard gun if it can consistently print what you shot. Hal, WW is implying that he's gonna install a red dot. Gil

Re: Yildiz #2 .410 turkey gun
Is there a relationship between Yildiz and the TriStar .410? I won a Tristar .410 a couple of years ago. I've never shot it, but it looks very similar and breaks over all the way like guns posted here. THanks Dunno. The design has been around for years. Beretta made a similar gun in the 1950's. The...

Re: Catch and release turkey hunting
Pete, that's a miserable experience. I've had to go hand-to-hand combat with a gobbler after I shot out of shells in a swampy area. I had to break his neck as a boot on the neck wouldn't do it because of the soft ground. I also had one come to life in the back of a car trunk and had to finish him of...

Re: Yellow Flies
Yellow flies (deer flies) are here in the low country from now on until cooler. Then it's the sand gnats (Flying Teeth) when temps hit high 60's, low 70's. That's when the deer flies disappear, having handed-off the misery baton to the gnats.

Re: Do You Text while Turkey Hunting?
It's useful to let someone know when I'm out of the woods, etc. It's a safety bonus. My phone has maps, gps, weather radar links--it's a pretty good security blanket for a solo hunter.

Re: Aaredondo Shotgun Rib Mount
That's a nice low-profile mount. I noted on the site that there were conversion parts for C-more and RMR (Trijicon) sights. Correct me if I am wrong, but any mount suitable for a Docter will accept a Fast Fire. It appears to require two drills and taps on the vent rib.

Re: Fast Fire Battery Issues
It's probably a good practice to replace the battery each year regardless of mfg's claim of life. I had an Aimpoint on my SBE from 1998 until I traded it away this past fall. Back then, the battery life was measured in hundreds of hours not tens of thousands. Whether it needed to be replaced or not,...
