I've gotten to where it doesn't bother me when people shoot them.

Re: Reflex Sight with Green Dot
Wes, Tru Glo makes a reflex called the Tru-Brite that has red and green dots. I don't care for cheap optics, but I mounted this model for a friend on an AR and have to say after shooting it that the dot itself was more crisp(round) than the dot in my Burris sites. It held zero fine and was easier to...

Re: Scope mount for 1187 20ga
I'd skip the saddle mount. I never have liked those things, but did have decent luck with one I put on an 870 for a relative. I made that one shorter and lighter though, so maybe it helped a bit due to less mass. My buddy put one on his boy's 1187 20ga and started having trouble with zero before the...

Got a nice one...
It’s been a slow season here at home. The season has been in for a couple weeks and I’ve managed to get out for 6 days of hunting. Didn’t get on anything the first 4 days, but I had heard a bird way off gobble sparsely a couple mornings. I did some scouting in that direction and found some tom track...

Re: help me buy my first turkey gun
For ammo I'd suggest the Federal HW 7 and would first try the factory turkey choke if you buy a gun so equipped. They are by far the best factory shell out right now. That said, they do have a stout recoil for a 20ga(Similar to a heavy HV 2-3/4" 12ga load). If those are out of your budget, I've...

Re: help me buy my first turkey gun
It's hard to beat the Wby SA459(same action as the SA-08) in that budget range. The 11-87 turkey would be my second choice.

I found that my 835 barrel reaches yield at around 19.5-20kpsi. The question is how many times can it yield before it fails.

A shot in the wing will do it too, but it's gonna be messy.

Re: Texas Massacre...
I eased over to Dad and we commenced to taking pics, telling stories and cleaning our birds. After we had our birds cleaned, we headed back out and set up where I heard some in a creek bottom that morn. It wasn’t long and I heard a tom fire off a few hundred yds away. Then after a while another fire...

Re: Texas Massacre...
I stayed put and eventually called some of those toms out, must have been 6-7 they came up a draw below me and went up on the next ridge strutting about 11am. Talk about pretty, they were bowed up with nothing but skyline behind them. They eventually lost interest in what they couldn’t see and eased...

Re: Texas Massacre...
The next morn it was cool, cloudy, and breezy again, but at least the rain had passed. Dad wanted to try the canyon, so I dropped him off and headed to the birds I roosted. As daylight came there was a whole lot more than the two I’d heard that eve, there was a bunch, but they had a lot of company. ...

Re: Texas Massacre...
We headed back to the truck and drove down to a wheat plot for dad to try while I took care of my birds. I’m sitting there cleaning my toms and a bird fired off, so I rushed to get dad and we set up. By that time the rain was getting worse and Dad had had about all the fun he could stand, so we head...

Texas Massacre...
Dad and I had an awesome hunt in Texas opening weekend. We lost our best 3 places, but had a few options left and one new property, so decided to give it a shot and it turned out way better than expected. I was pretty excited to go, especially after not getting on anything opening week here at home....

Re: Henned up theory busted
"Henned up" and population density are two totally opposite subjects. In one situation you can still kill them with patience and good woodsmanship, in the other, you're SOL. I've been in both situations and I'll take "Henned Up" toms any time. Unfortunately a few of the propertie...

Re: Jebs choke with TSS?
The non-ported .560 Jebs in my buddy's M2 gives some of the best TSS patterns I've seen, nearly all pellets in the 20, but only 270s in the 10. Just really even great hunting patterns that are still good at long range. Comparing the M2 to the 870, I'd give a WAG that a .565 non-ported would be the w...
