.410 Yildiz, 370NM, with CompNChoke

Here's a look at some patterns I've shot today with my Yildiz and a CompNChoke .385 (with my best Factory Full pattern of 10s thrown in for reference); my 370NM load. 40 yds, 10" and 10-20" numbers 10s Factory Full http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff168/hawglips/patterns/IMG_3663_zpssaohdjk7.jpg 1...

Nice!

Looks like your pattern matches up with the shot's penetration about right!

Re: 20 ga. 1-5/8 TSS vs. Same in 12 ga.

One of the intriguing things about TSS is not only the other-league performance you can get with it, but how you can do so many things with it. My first load with it was a 1-5/8 oz 2-3/4" 12 ga load. One of my latest is a 1-5/8 oz 28 ga load. It's crazy to think you have the capability of 1-5/8 oz l...

Re: VP92

They don't call the VP90 "The Tank" for no reason. I was the maybe the first one complaining to BPI when they said they were going to quit selling it. It's thick and designed to be tough - ideal for heavy TSS loads - UNLESS there is a problem with the manufacture or design of it. The design has inde...

Re: VP92

I would wonder if the 4 failures of the 90 isn't from something loaded wrong? I haven't heard or seen anyone having problems from wads being used in a hotter load.. With a wad being stuck in the barrel it sounds like it could have the improper amount of powder being used? There was nothing loaded w...

Re: VP92

Pass the 90s please :D Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple. I got reports of the PT2090 wad failing from two different turkey hunters this spring. The wad failures cost both hunters two birds each. To add danger to the mix, each time the wad ended up stuck ibarrel. Good things the hunters had...

Re: FALL TURKEY SEASONS FOR ALL 49 STATES....

I think if states wanna have a fall season, it needs to be during a time when deer season is not open. I agree. About the only thing worse than a hen killer ( ) is a deer hunter plinking at turkeys.... I was real disappointed to see VA's mgmt plan state the goal to increase the number of ...

Re: Is it consistent

True sized and true 18g/cc density 10s give you about 533/oz. And the smaller the shot is, the tougher it is to be exact on the size part. The 10s folks have been using this year have been running about 500/oz. Like Wes said, if we use 1.25" ball. gel penetration as the standard needed, and 1100 fps...

I pay more attention to variation in the 20" instead of 10". The 20" is usually a better measure of consistency, IMO.

Re: FALL TURKEY SEASONS FOR ALL 49 STATES....

I agree. I'd be willing to give up a week of spring to hunt a week of fall. But Id still just target longbeards. Just a personal choice deal. I also agree killing 21 in one area can't be good On my last fall hunt last December, we called up a large group of birds - and I counted 102 that came by be...

Re: FALL TURKEY SEASONS FOR ALL 49 STATES....

One thing for certain, if you kill five poults at any age, that's five that will not see two years of age. Preach. Some areas obviously can support a fall season. But in the South where the spring seasons run for 6 to 8 weeks I don't see how the population could sustain itself without hunters makin...

Re: Gobblers on the limb

I always call to a roosted bird. I want him thinking about me before he flies down. If he's got hens around, I call as much or more than they do, to compete for his attention. I've never noticed calling causing a bird to stay in the tree longer, but I don't know how others call, so it's hard to say ...

Re: FALL TURKEY SEASONS FOR ALL 49 STATES....

Another issue I have with a fall season is the fact that a lot of the birds killed are 2 to 4 months old. Just does't sound like something I'd be interested in seeing happen around here. Lovett Williams used to talk about this. He was a proponent of shooting jakes during the fall/winter - because t...

I have loaded some one ounce 20 gauge loads for kids using Kyle's old load that has an entire 28 gauge wad inside the CSD 20 gauge wad. It uses no buffer or cushion, but still claims to be under max pressure. I guess there are a lot of ways to load TSS. It's a great way to load TSS, but it's limite...

Re: Blowing up a shotgun? This is a good read.

SAAMI specs leave a lot of leeway to keep things safe. But everybody has too keep in mind that hard shot doesn't have much give and use recipes and chokes that take that into consideration. I've always told folks that if you have a gun or choke that you couldn't bear to see a scratch in, don't shoot...

Re: Looking for a 1/2 oz. or less subgauge waterfowl recipe

I want to shoot ducks and geese with TSS this winter but don't see the need for the large shot charges we're all shooting at turkeys. I've got 28 gauge recipes calling for 9/16, 13/16 and 7/8 oz. but nothing lighter, and the only ,410 recipe I have calls for 13/16. Idealy, I'd like a 3/8 load for ....
