Glad you kinda halfway validated that for me Jug........I had guessed 11" but I guess I was off just a hair. I remember us talking about him being all beard after you killed him. Guesswho I've never hunted down that way, but I've seen lots of pictures on aldeer and other places from turkeys down sou...

No way to know for sure guesswho, I tried to look down their beaks to see their jawbones but I couldn't figure out how. Seriously though any turkey hunter in the world would have called them 2 year olds.......Little triangle shaped spurs nothing else they can be. I was with a buddy of mine a few yea...

Any wild turkey you can trick good enough to get into shotgun range is a trophy; that's one thing that makes turkey hunting so great.......but still the first thing I do every time I kill one is grab that leg so I can see what kind of spurs he's got Beards are cool but they really don't mean anythin...

I walked up into a patch of morels one time and leaned my gun up against a tree .......... Started hunting shrooms and walked off and left it. Took me about 2 hours to find it when I came back looking for it

Anything beyond medium rare and you start to ruin venison or duck in my opinion. I've always figured that's why a lot of folks say they don't like wild game: they never had any that wasn't burnt

I remember not long after i started turkey hunting I got on a turkey years ago that hung up in wide open big timber at about 60-70 yards and I sat there and watched him strut and gobble for the better part of an hour..........finally a hen comes walking to him in a fast trot and yelping continuously...

It's pretty easy to find shooter...... From the park just head west/northwest and start counting. After you hit stump #217, you'll know you're right there

Few Crappie

I'm just about ten miles or so from there. Our young lives used to revolve around Mud Creek and Crow Creek back in the day. There's a deep (deep by crow creek standards anyway) hole up past the park where we used to catch some big fish every spring. Friend of mine hung probably the biggest bass I've...

These 2 came out of crow creek up around the park back in the 90's when I used to fish a good bit.....us locals prettymuch had it to ourselves back then. My wife seems to think they look a lot better in the garage now for some reason

Most of those are white crappie. The one in the middle, on the bottom row, is a Black Crappie. There are 3 others,... can you find them?? Nice catch by the way. Ain't nothin like a mess of Bluegill or Crappie. #'s 2 and 4 in the middle row are blacks and #2 in the top row is a black. Shooter you fi...

Re: A turkeys hearing?

They can definitely tell when the leaves change from scratching in one spot and begin moving, even if it's just a few feet. There has been more than one time I've tried to crawl towards one a little and he has ended up meeting me half way. If you have to crawl in the woods, there is no way to do it ...

Re: Any waterfowlers in here?

Nice pics Savduck...........that big bluewing is almost as big as those gadwalls. We hardly ever see those here until after the season goes out. I've never hunted there, but I've always been told the Atlantic flyway had tons of black ducks. Is that still the case?

I can't imagine putting ducks in jerkey, but after You blasphemed turkey hunting like that I have to question your scruples anyway :D Sautéed wood ducks and runny eggs for breakfast after a morning shoot is a delicacy of the highest order as far as I'm concerned. I do have a crock pot recipe that ma...

Show some shot guns

I keep downsizing. Started out with a single shot ten gauge that I don't own anymore. Went from there to a Benelli Nova with a 28" barrel that handled about like a boat paddle and kicked like a mule. Then there was a BPS that I won at the NWTF banquet a few years ago.........I liked it ok but it was...

Re: Different

It's probably a combination of all the things listed above, but another thing is that if you fool with a turkey a few times and pay attention, you'll start eliminating some things he doesn't like and concentrating on things he likes. Of course this can change from day to day so it doesn't always wor...

Re: witty-wha-too

How long now until somebody produces a call that is guaranteed to make deadly witty-wa-toos? I don't know if I've ever heard that particular sequence, but it seems to me that hen turkeys are almost constantly making little soft whines. I think any kind of little soft whistle mixed with a few of thos...
