Re: Cove's Spring 2015

Awesome would be an understatement. Great pictures all around but those are some of the prettiest Merriam pictures I've seen and the Washington pics are gorgeous as well. On a side note..sharp looking shotgun also.

Re: I guess I'm jealous

I live relatively close to the MS/AL line so that affords me to be able to hunt 2 states pretty easily. I don't hunt AL as much as I used to, but I've started hunting TN more the last few seasons. That's 12 potential birds just in those 3 states. I normally take a few days off and go to KS every yea...

Re: In Kansas

We were in the east central part of the state. No outfitter, but it was on a private farm. These are pretty much all hybrid birds around where we hunt. Good luck to you 202P&Y, you will enjoy it I'm sure.

I don't normally post many of my birds, but I was pretty proud of this one. Opening weekend here in MS I was able to get my first one with my own handloads. Good feeling!

Re: Long Spurs, are they rarer than we think?

I do think our two year olds are a little heavier than most of our three year old and older birds. Don't know why, maybe less active in the whole breeding process thus burning less calories while taking in more. More feeding than fighting and tending to hens. Yep. I'm not sure why either, but most ...

Re: feet, knees and butts

I go vestless most of the time or either wear a bowhunters vest. So, i very rarely have a cushion. I can think of maybe one or two I've killed sitting on a cushion in the last 5 years. Zero last year.

Re: I need a Rio

I've hunted Kansas several times. Started off hunting public and had success, but since have gotten access to a great private farm. It's a trip I look forward to every year. WVRR, you should definitely be in rios if you are hunting west of 81. We hunt east of there and kill mostly hybrids, but have ...

Re: Mouth Call Making Discussion

I have a press from Thad, but it is the more inexpensive one without the dial on it to see how far you stretching the reeds. Right now, I'm just eyeballing it and marking a spot. I wish I had gone ahead and spent the extra money and bought one with the dial. My question is this..is there some type o...

Re: Mouth Call Making Discussion

I got a press last year and started building some calls. I finally got a few toward the end of season that I felt worthy of taking to the woods. It is fun and rewarding, but frustrating at times for sure. I'm gonna keep working on it and hopefully I can pick up a few pointers here and there. I still...

I carried a power crystal for years also. As for mouth calls, I started with a preston pittman black diamond and that was all I used for several years.

Re: Going in Blind

I would go with B most all the time. I might take a chance and slip in early if I think I might have to cross a lot of open ground to get to him once he starts gobbling. I hardly ever have to worry about that down here in MS, but I would take it into consideration in some of the places I've hunted i...
