Re: smoked brisket

Hoobilly, she did the same with all her critters. She kept her chickens out back, named them and babied them like you wouldn't believe. But when it was time for fried chicken.....off with their heads in a blink. Just as an aside, she also raised rabbits for eating. She had a system. Bucks had a cage...

Re: Interesting Conversation!

Even though he's got 3500 acres it sounds like he's the type who hasn't seen any of it that's not close to a road in years. Plus he is pretty close to your feeder (you got some nice bucks on trail cam) which he has to be aware of and is likely a big factor here. Your maintained road, your maintained...

Re: smoked brisket

Getting ready to dive into a brisket "samich" as I read. Man, I haven't eaten possum in YEARS. That and groundhog were 2 of my grannies specialties. I was just a little fellow but I remember her putting the possums in a cage and feeding them for a while. She said "to sweeten him up". LOL

smoked brisket

Bought a smoker a while back and have been doing a few things, ribs, pork butt, ect. Tried my first brisket this weekend and it turned out great! Tender and very juicy but not falling apart. It was a very simple rub recipe for beginners. If you don't like hot and spicy you might want to reduce the c...

Re: Hookspur's 2nd Book

I have been reading my copy and while not finished yet...it is all the ups and downs and no BS tales of a traveling turkey hunter. And a refreshing break from the almost non stop commercialism that seems to follow a lot of the "pros" around. Well done Doc!

Re: repairing rubber boots

Shoe goop, plumbers goop. All work well on rubber boots. Rough it up a little with 80 grit sandpaper first. It won't be pretty but it will seal a leak. Good to glue soles back on too.

Re: Retirement destination

Western Kentucky is nice country. If LBL suits you I would suggest you look into a house boat. That opens so many huge doors in that country with all the lakes available. There are many lake side homes and such as well. Camping areas. Another similar option is western and central TN. Lots of public ...

Re: Wing Bones.

Yes, what he said. Very good description and easy to do. Cutting the ends off is critical because it lets the marrow and grease get out. I just say it again because its that important. I do boil mine pretty good because the steam and boiling forces more junk out. JMO But some others ways to approach...

She is definitely a KEEPER! X2 on the mora knives and the sharpener! I also have used the mora knives for years and prefer the carbon steel for the edge. But both carbon and ss are great deals.
