Re: Fall season can’t come fast enough
Tough time of the year for a turkey dog. Mine is climbing the walls, too hot to run much. They want to hunt 10X worse than we do.

Re: Toughest State You Ever Turkey Hunted
I have hunted a lot of them, and I will say Pennsylvania. Populations on the decline, tons of hunters, and mostly mountain terrain. Guys hunt all season, and feel blessed to kill one or two birds. But in all fairness, it's more about the particular property you hunt, rather than the state. If you ge...

On my spring gun, Leupold 1X4, and a see-through mount/bead, just in case. Only a bead on my fall gun, I go as light as possible.

Re: Humble Pie, Tag Sandwiches, and Wild Turkey 101
Happens to most of us I believe, but some are too proud to admit to it. In my experience, roosted often does not mean roasted, and turkeys rarely come charginging in to hen calls, like you see on TV. Had some of the same luck myself this year, went on an almost "guaranteed" outfitted hunt,...

Not sure what this author was smoking, but I wouldn't put PA or NY in the top 5. 20 years ago perhaps, but not in 2018.

Re: How long can you take it?
It really depends. If I know the area and I'm confident birds are around or will be, I can sit 2 or 3 hours. If I have them patterened, and I can get in a chair, probably longer. But if I'm just roaming a new place, I'll give it about an hour and move on.

In order of careers: chef, butcher, now an accountant. Next job I plan on having is retired.
I got in a lot of trouble in high school, the teacher went around the class asking us what we wanted to be. I said, "door-to-door gynecologist". Apparently, that wasn't the right answer.

Re: Number Of Wild Turkeys--What Is Your Goal In A Season??
No goal, I just try to fill as many tags as I can, hunting multiple states. I'd say I average 4 or 5 each spring, and anothe 2 or 3 each fall. Most gobblers I shot in a spring season was 7.

Re: Mascara for the hunter
How about just skip the facepaint all together, and just wear a mask? It's not Halloween, most of us are not Navy Seals or Army Rangers, and men putting on makeup makes me a little nervous. But I do agree, some of these clowns on TV look like they're bush-league pro wrestlers.

Re: FALL TURKEY SEASONS FOR ALL 49 STATES....
I'm all for the idea, but I don't live in a state that disallows fall turkey hunting. I know a lot of guys I hunt with in Georgia and North Carolina WISH there was a fall season, they are always saying too many hens in the spring. Honestly, I don't think there are enough dedicated fall hunters to ma...

Re: Eastern hunter needs advice to hunt west
My advice would be make sure to have good binoculars and quality decoys. It's a little different than hunting Easterns IMO, you will probably rely a lot less on calling than you do on the East Coast. Birds will be near rivers and big cottonwoods, they are easy to find. Try working the terrain & ...

Hey guys. I'm new to the forum. I was just wondering if anyone on here uses an 835 ulti mag with a heavy shot choke and 3-1/2" magnum blend loads? This combination has a good pattern out to 50- 55 yards but is like shooting a rifle at 10-15 yards. Is this good or do I need to change something ...

First Bird in North Carolina
Spent the last 3 days hunting swamp gobblers in North Carolina, 3 days sitting out getting soaked. Birds not gobbling much, and those in the fields not responding well to calls. It all came together on the last night, a water-logged younger gobbler strolled silently into my setup. He looked like a h...
