Re: hearing enhancement
For $1300 I'll go buy stock in a turkey farm and go feeshin' Look at what ACTUAL hearing aids cost. It's one of your five senses, and extremely important especially when hunting. Also, to the other guys, you won't be able to tell where the sound is coming from with one Game Ear. You need two of the...

Re: Got my PA bird #1 on the board this morning
Thanks! I haven't gotten a PA bird in a few years. I can't really say they are slow for me this year; my son got his tag #1 bird on youth day at 7:35am, it was the third longbeard we saw that morning. I went out every single day since the regular season started, and worked birds into range (40 yards...

Got my PA bird #1 on the board this morning
I've been out every day since the season opened last Saturday and had a lot of close encounters, but this morning it finally came together. 9.5" beard, 3/4" spurs, but only weighed 16.5 lbs! (Hey, at least you know I'm honest!) Going after #2 in the morning... IMG_20180507_075426_01.jpg IM...

Re: hearing enhancement
I just ordered a pair of Walkers Game Ear Elite Digital HD Power 4s. After sitting for an hour last Friday, I didn't hear a single gobble, and went to the trail about 59 yards behind me where I met a 60 year old man who was coming from my left. He was heading to my right, after a gobble I never even...

Re: Need a fresh idea for these birds. They come in & don't
you might try going silent a little sooner than normal or maybe don't go silent at all. maybe try gobbler yelping, all the male birds are ganging back up here. who knows what will work till you have him on your back. what failed today might work tomorrow, who knows. Yeah, I know... I wouldn't even ...

Re: Need a fresh idea for these birds. They come in & don't
Where I'm hunting now is wooded ridges, some undergrowth with some open areas (ferns and such). Popping his head up isn't quite enough, in PA they have to have a visible beard to be legal... and I've seen some with them broken off flush. My son and I had that happen with a mature gobbler a couple we...

Re: Need a fresh idea for these birds. They come in & don't
Yeah I probably would have killed him if I set up where I knew they eventually go instead of setting up on where I heard him gobble on the roost. I did make him detour about 100 yards to come check me out, but he did go where he was going to go anyways. It's hard to walk away from a bird that's only...

Re: Need a fresh idea for these birds. They come in & don't
Ha, speaking of that, this morning a bird came in again to just out of sight. It got quiet, I figured he was gonna show up. 5 min later he gobbled going away from me... I had an idea where he'd go and I tried to beat him. I didn't make it, he was right over the hill when he gobbled again (right wher...

Need a fresh idea for these birds. They come in & don't show
I'm caught in a bit of a slump. Any time I call in a gobbler, I can work him JUST until he gets right out of my sight. I'm at the point where I hear him gobbling, and I'm looking hard because I should be able to see him any second (about 30 yard visibility where I set up). The last several birds com...

Re: Best high visibility turkey head targets
Personally, I don't like those ones that show the color around the pellets. It makes the "impact" bigger than it is, giving you the illusion of a hit when you may have missed the spine by 1/8". They should make the targets with the skull/vertebrae outline on the flip side so you can s...

Re: Darwinism and turkey hunters
Disclaimer: I don't fan. But. Lots of people are doing it. How many accidents have happened while using this "suicide tactic?" Two? Almost every other shooting accident during turkey season, this year as well as going WAY back through history, is some guy leaning against a tree, getting sh...

Re: Missed one today with TSS! (first time using TSS)
My son missed one at about 20 steps in Texas on the first morning. He SWORE he was rock steady, resting on a BogPod tripod, dot halfway up the neck, etc, followed through the shot... well, the bird flew away unscathed. The next two days, he swatted one at 15 steps and another at 38. We did nothing t...

I shoot at the wattles when they're close. The head can quickly move away; the neck is anchored to the body so there's less likelyhood of major movement there.

Took my son to bust some Rios... awesome hunt!
We have some tough birds here in PA, and I wanted to take my 13 year old son on a fun hunt with cooperative gobblers. We found it in Uvalde, TX. We've been teased by our host with pics of big gangs of longbeards for the past year and he couldn't wait for this trip. We flew down last Friday for a thr...

Four birds... just my son and I at camp, with one other guy who can get 2 birds as well. We're gonna be bringing it back. Besides, we like turkey meat.
I like the soft sided cooler idea. Much easier than checking a separate cooler.

Flying out for a hunt... transporting meat/fans?
My son and I are flying to south Texas this coming Friday for a Rio hunt. We've never done this before, we've always hunted within an hour or so of the house. You guys who do this... how do you transport your kill home? We're flying Southwest so we have 2 checked bags each (plenty of baggage). I'm p...

I use a cantilever vent rib mount. I've had no problems with it at all, no drilling and tapping required.

I used him last year. Call him, don't email. I sent it out priority at the beginning of the week, it seems like it was done within a day of him receiving it and was in the mail back to me the next day. I'd like to say it was within a week total turnaround, including shipping.

Don't do it?
You can send your barrel to Mike Orlen in MA, and he will do it RIGHT, guaranteed, for about $50 and you'll get it back in a couple days.
