Re: BPI or Precision Roll Crimper

I like the Precision roll crimp dies better than the BPI in the .410, 28 and 20 gauge. But I prefer the BPI in the 12 ga. It has to do with the overall size of the Precision die being so small that it's harder to center the shell under it. I mess up too many with the Precision 12 ga die. I haven't n...

Re: 12 ga 2 3/4” tss loads

The first load I came up with back in '06 with the 9s was a 2-3/4" 1-5/8 oz 12 ga load for my brother's old Wingmaster. It was a gun he won in the 80s in a biggest deer contest. Anyway, he killed two with it the next spring in TX that were much farther than polite company will talk about when he bad...

Lesson one never call if you are not ready kill a turkey
I'd been calling for the past 3 hours, ready to kill any bird at any moment the whole time - except for about a 30 second window. He was a very fortunate fowl.

The more I think about this the more I lean to using #2 and shooting for the neck; especially since I want lighter loads. 2s will work with a regular turkey choke?

closest I've ever called one in without killing him

Was out this weekend and prospecting along, and around mid morning worked my way over to a big creek to see if I could cross it. I saw that I could and called a few times before I dropped down to cross. It took about 1-1/2 minute, when I was about in the middle of the creek with my gun strapped on m...

Re: TSS buckshot opinions

I'd be surprised if wad catchers didn't get banged up real bad with the large sizes. I'd err on the side of opening the choke up a good deal more than with the turkey sizes.

I usually use a .700 (standard bore) with small sizes and turkeys anyway.

Hal’s new Lil Zip 1260fps 1 5/8oz load

Not a significant difference in the 20”. I pay more attention to the 20” numbers than the 10” when looking for consistency. There was a small alteration between the two that so far hasn’t seemed to make much difference.

357 count 9s for these.

Re: TSS buckshot opinions

Hal, Do you know what choke and restriction he was using and what gun he was using by any chance? I believe it was modified factory flush mount. I'd have to ask him for details, but it's real easy to get great patterns. With a factory full out of my Moss 500 it will typically put all the pellets in...
