Great bird and story. Glad you took him to the taxidermist. The bird deserved it and you'll always have the memory.

Re: Binoculars....
Don't leave home without them. I use a pair of elastic straps (I think they are called Wyoming IIRC) to hold a compact pair of nikons. They go on before my vest.

Re: Am I on the right track?
Welcome to GN. You're on the right track. If you can find an open area or field, the gobblers like to strut first thing in the morning. They may or may not gobble at first light, and if they have hens with them they are likely to go silent when they hit the ground. I try to roost a bird by either gl...

Re: Headed to Georgia
Best of luck. Remember to load the gun when you get to the woods. A few years ago, I tried to quietly load my 935. I always store my guns with the firing pin released. I loaded the gun, but didn't pull the bolt back far enough to cock the firing pin. Lost a good bird that morning when the gun wouldn...

God Bless you and the rest of the people who have made this possible for this young man. It's a great feeling when you are paying it forward to someone else. We think that we are helping others and being a blessing to them, but we actually get a blessing also.

Re: Changed guns for a change of luck...
Yes, it was a combination of errors. All that added to the fact that after the hunt I was headed for an 8 hour drive back home. If it had been early in the week, I probably would have let him walk to hunt again. I'll be taking the Mossberg 500 20 ga again this weekend when I hunt for an Osceola, onl...

Great job, looks like your good for 40 yds. If I can find some where to do some sighting in I need to build one of these, in a slightly more portable sections maybe.

Re: POA/POI problem
shoot off a bench with a sand bag or lead sled. that will help eliminate the shooter error. Yes, that was why I braced off my knee and shot the last shot at the top of the paper and struck it dead center. The only place I have to do any sighting in is at the ranch in Al. All the local gun ranges ha...

Re: Browning 20ga hunter or micro hunter
KS, I just bought a Stoeger M3020 camo from The Sports Center in Perry GA, friday a week ago. The gun is extremely light at 6#2oz IIRC. Has a 26" barrel in camo, and come with 3 chokes, 1 is XFT. I am having a problem with POA/POI, not sure it is the gun, could be me or the shells. I can say t...

Re: POA/POI problem
What load is this? Hal's recipe. 20ga 3" 1 5/8oz #9TSS. I don't think it's the shell. Like I said in the Mossberg 500 bantam, I can lay the two targets of TSS and Hevi12 duck load over each other and the circles are identical for pattern density, and location on the paper. I'm wondering if it'...

Re: Hows the gobbling?
They were slow, and populations were down in lower Al. I finally figured out why Sat AM, when I saw 2 coyotes less than an hour apart. There are normally at least 4 flocks with 20-25 birds in them, and lots of small bachelor groups. I saw one flock with 12 birds this year. Time to do some predator c...

Changed guns for a change of luck...
Hunted all week in LA (lower Al), heard 1 bird probably 4 mornings out of the week, but different birds in different locations. I finally decided that Sat AM I needed to do something to change my luck so I decided to carry the new Stoeger m3020, instead of the Mossberg bantam 500 20ga, even though I...
