Re: Savage Bolt Action Turkey Gun!

Hart, thanks for the pic. I like that pattern. Very uniform. I hope mine does as well. It's driving me nuts that I won't be able to pattern mine for a couple of weeks.

Re: Savage Bolt Action Turkey Gun!

I wouldn't be surprised if they'll make you whatever LOP you want, but they make the stock in two standard LOP, 13.5" and 12.5". Which one are you using? I’m short.. so sitting down youth stocks are almost perfect. Some are too short, but some are just right Mine is the 13.5, but I could easily see...

Re: Savage Bolt Action Turkey Gun!

Hey Brice, Your post from a while back is what set me off on this Savage 220T. Sloppy and Clark Bush gave me encouragement and answered questions I had before taking the plunge. I called the Savage custom shop back in mid March, spec'd everything out, and then formally placed the order through my lo...

Re: New member hello

Raps, guy got shot in the back during the 1st week in the cornfield right above Brunelles Marina this year. He lived but has about 30 pellets still embedded in muscle and fat. Heard about that from my sister. Happened just before I got there. I was told it resulted from a hunter taking a shot at an...

Re: New member hello

Welcome. This is a great place. I grew up in Western Mass (South Hadley) and hunted and fished all over that part of the state. I go back to visit family and old friends and hunt turkeys every year. Had to smile when I saw the "Western Mass". Reminded me how we all make that distinction to avoid con...

Re: WTB Nikon Turkey Pro scope

The Nikon ARDs are pretty hard to come by. A very workable alternative is to get the Butler Creek Flip-Up Cover #23 for the objective and the Tenebraex ARD #2. It ends up being a perfect fit and gives you an objective cover as well. The Tenebraex ARD is high quality. I got them both from Midway.

No, that's a good number for 50 yards. It would imply something like 280 to 290 at 40 yards, a good place to be.

Very cool. Interesting action. I've never seen one like that before. I was expecting a larger shot charge than 2 3/4 ounce.

Re: Turkey tote

I use the paracord kind with a single loop on each end. Works great. Makes carrying them long distances a whole lot easier. I also carry some bags to put over bloody heads before synching up the paracord loop.

Re: InReach Satellite communicator

I have been building Amazon points to buy one of these units. The Inreach Plus is only slightly more expensive than the SE model, but with the added feature of your texts sending maps to text recipients. While it can GPS navigate, this is not its forte. Being able to summon help and communicate wit...

InReach Satellite communicator

I set it up to automatically renew unless I go online and suspend. I don’t know yet how frequently I have to do that. But it also looks like you can prepay a set amount. It is any 30 days, not tied to the calendar. I will use mine April and May, then July while fishing in Colorado, and most likely o...

InReach Satellite communicator

Some of the places we hunt in New Mexico can easily be well over an hour to the nearest phone or cell service by car before even getting off the forest roads. Being gone for several days without communication always causes anxiety at home, and there is the ever real possibility of someone getting se...

Re: turkey eating

One of our favorites is to do Buffalo style turkey strips. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/809/27222683778_1527d2c42b_z_d.jpg The recipe is based on this one for chicken wings. They are "oven fried". Very easy. Never any leftovers. https://www.thespruce.com/oven-fried-buffalo-chicken-wings-recipe-101...

Re: One tactic in your bag of tricks...

That's a good one that I learned by accident but now use on purpose, mostly moving in parallel if the terrain allows. Another one I've used on stubborn gobblers is to cut off his gobble mid-gobble with hard cutting if he seems hung up or reluctant.

Just so yall know...I have been building plenty of trumpets. I shortened them a good bit and added a small piece of stainless steel screen inside the bell. They have been selling like crazy in Colorado and California. I'm game, what's the screen do add rasp? :LMAO: After you run it twice, yes. Yes!...

Exactly! Where is Mike!? Maybe we all should write a letter to him about how hard it is getting a MKW trumpet and maybe he should get the itch to help us out and build another couple hundred
Great idea. I’d join that list.
