Re: Emergency Communication in areas with no cell service

You can make a 911 call with a cell phone with no cell service. Emergency calls only. Look into it. https://survivalfreedom.com/do-emergency-calls-work-without-signal/ True, if you can connect to some network other than your service provider. But if no cell networks are available, you’re still out ...

Re: Chanterelle time

Rapscal, I haven't seen any porcini's around here but we do get a variety of boletes in the fall more so than now. Those pink bellies are beauts but I haven't seen them either. The boletes won't kill you but you'll wish you were dead if you eat the wrong ones. Moons ago, some Koreans picked and ate...

Re: Chanterelle time

Anyone eat oysters. Found a grocery bag was leery even knowing didn't eat um. We eat them. They are very good. Sautéed up they go well with a good steak. Nice firm texture. There are a few different species. Did yours look like the white ones here? (The brown capped mushrooms are porcini.) https://...

Re: Turkey Hunting Books

I enjoy the hunt for good turkey reads in the off-season. Some have taken a couple of years to find at a decent price. Most recent is a pristine first printing of Tom Kelly's "The Season" for $10, my favorite of Col. Kelly's books. I'd read it years ago as a library book, but wanted my own...

Re: #7 HW x #9 TSS Duplex ?

Just a caution that if you replace TSS with HWT shot, by weight, in a given load recipe, the pressure will go up. why is this? if tis the same weight its hard for me to grasp. Just trying to learn My understanding is that the longer shot column, for the same weight of shot, generates more radial pr...

Del, glad you posted this. So true. I have no idea why. Ralph would be in my top tier as well. Ralph has a great website too. I've been looking at that lignum vitae hex call he has up. That's a beautiful cocobolo 1940 you have. I thought I had heard 2nd hand that Ralph wasn't making any more calls w...

Re: Retirement destination

First off was is rockfishing? Rockfish are striped bass. Magazine writers changed the names of lots of things. I haven't caught a calico bass since I was real little. I try, but they all come up as crappie. Well, except when fishing in Fl. Those are all specks. “Calico bass”, wow that brings back s...

Re: Can you hear it?

How high should the headphones be volume wise? If turned up I can hear from the beginning until I just could not take the sound any more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I don’t think there’s an easy way to standardize it. I just adjusted the volume as I went. Down in the middle and back up some...

Re: Can you hear it?

I can hear it at 30, but it is gone between 11K and 12K. This was with cheap headphones. Running through my truck stereo got it down into the mid to upper 20s. Thought I could feel something before I could say I heard it. Truck stereo didn’t help at all with the high end. Furthest I’ve heard drummi...

I'd buy that just for the label. But I do like wheat beers, especially in the summer. Allagash White is my favorite, but impossible to find out here.

Re: What do I think

I've not been fortunate to find some Weller 12. While pheasant hunting in Kansas went into a small liquor store and found a couple of bottles of Weller 107. Couldn't believe it. I like it better than the Old Rip Van Winkle I lucked into a few years back. I do like wheaters.
