Re: Fri eves Bass trip
I'm gonna be out chasing whitetails with my oldest Friday through Sunday this week Tommy....trying to get his first bowkill. That boy would rather chase a deer than a turkey any day. I don't know who his real Daddy is, but it can't be me.

WHOLE BUNCH of ugly in that picture for sure....not counting that pretty bass of course.
Glad ya'll have gotten to hook up and go some! I'll have to come join one day!

Re: Thanks to Gobbler Nation...I have another Gun lol
If that is an older 870...in that kind of condition....you STOLE it! Most reliable gun I'ver ever owned....thousands and thousands or rounds through it without cleaning and never even a hiccup. Good deal man!

Re: suggestions for a first time shotgun buyer
Of the two you mentioned that you liked, go with the Nova. The 870 express of today is a shell of the gun that it was when I first started buying them years ago. Unless you have some bad luck, it will most likely still be reliable, but don't expect it to be of the same quality that built the 870's r...

Re: Whos all Shooting Blackhorn 209
Even so, I can't imagine that it'd be an improvement over smokeless out of a Savage. If the Savage fit me better, that's what I'd be running. If the Savage were cheaper and lighter, I would still have one. But, since we really don't have much need for a muzzleloader in Alabama with our rifle season...

Re: Whos all Shooting Blackhorn 209
Getting setup to shoot it right now. Piss on a bunch of Pyrodex and/or Triple 7. I sold my Savage smokeless because I've heard so much good stuff about this Blackhorn....those folks better be right or somebody's getting a knot on their head.

Re: Probably been asked before
If I'm not mistaken the last turkey my pal Jughead killed this past season was a 2 year old and I'm pretty sure he had 11" of beard too. Seems like mountain turkeys usually have a little better beards though. Just looked at my journal. 10 5/8" heavy beard, weighed 15#, and had 3/4" t...

Re: Which Reflex sight?
Get the FFIII and get it mounted down low on the Marlin 336 mount. That Mueller is a fine sight, but that thing sits up WAY too high for my liking up on top of a weaver rail like that. I like low and compact myself.

Re: A turkeys hearing?
I'm just learning, but I'm absolutely amazed at how well they can hear. BrentM demonstrated to me a couple of times how good they can hear by doing the softest purrs on a friction call with a turkey standing 200+ yards away and getting him to gobble at it. Not only that, but 2 different times now I'...

You're so blessed! I would give anything I have if my little girl cared anything at all about the outdoors! Congrats, enjoy, and happy birthday to the young turkey slayer!

Re: Show some shot guns
I keep downsizing. Started out with a single shot ten gauge that I don't own anymore. Went from there to a Benelli Nova with a 28" barrel that handled about like a boat paddle and kicked like a mule. Then there was a BPS that I won at the NWTF banquet a few years ago.........I liked it ok but ...

Re: cheap Wal-Mart calls
I bought a Primos Power crystal last year after reading about all the rave reviews....I used it to help finish off an educated bird that me and BrentM were fooling with this year....I don't go turkey hunting without it.

Re: Public Land Strategies
I'm just saying don't be afraid to carry on a conversation with a turkey and communicate with him just like real turkeys do in the woods just because you're on public land. They're still turkeys. Hope you don't take this as me trying to give you advice because I know you're way beyond taking advice...

Re: Public Land Strategies
My public land strategy is to drive right past the WMA and hunt on one of my private places.
I look forward to the day when I feel like I'm up to the challenge of fooling with public land birds.
