Re: Axcil Xcor reviews?
They work great for having normal conversations while concurrently delivering protection from gunfire. Plus, they don't give you that "plugged-up" feeling while shooting. As for use while hunting, I hope to know more in the season. Based on use to date, I'm confident you'll able to hear at...

Re: Axcil Xcor reviews?
I recently got a pair. While I haven't used them much hunting, they've been quite good for target shooting. Sound compression is excellent. They are comfortable for me as well. Although the Bluetooth functions fine, it's not on par with Apple EarPods. Plus, if you move too far away from the connecte...

Jeb’s Headhunter (20GA Benelli Crio +)
I figured someone may want to try one of these as season approaches. I landed on the .565" for my load, but this .560" was way good too. I don't think you'll be able to tell this one from new. I doubt it has more than 10 rounds through it. Asking $60 shipped CONUS.

Re: Turkey ammo trajectory?
I'm not an advocate of taking long shots at gobblers, but I firmly believe in total familiarity with the primary tools of the hunt ie., the shotgun and ammunition and its performance. I pattern my guns and loads at ranges from 10-60 yards and have a pretty good estimation of ranges based upon the r...

Re: Turkey ammo trajectory?
Here's a screen grab of my primary 20ga turkey load. This assumes a 1140fps muzzle velocity and a sight height of 0.75" above the bore. It shows trajectory at 40, 50, 60 and 70 yards sight-ins. For beads, a 60/40 pattern at 40 yards is basically equivalent to 70 yard sight-in and a 55/45 patter...

Re: Mangy old coyote
Very nice! I killed an old female some years ago that was missing more teeth than what she had. And, the ones she had were terribly worn. So, she was much like yours. I sent her head off for beetle cleaning and I'm so I glad I did. Looks likes an old warhorse of a skull in my display case.

I bought a big stash of "Old Whites" from him after they'd been discontinued. They were the best patterning non-TSS load I've ever shot. I still have about half of them. I enjoyed visiting with him about patterning. Godspeed...

Re: Georgia season changes
I have hunted many ranches in south Texas with unbelievable turkey numbers. They have numerous wild hogs , coyotes, and even coons. The thing that I see time and time again is that they had very very few turkey hunters and lots of deer feeders. I'm with you. I've hunted that country some too and ha...

Re: Georgia season changes
(1) I’d like to figuratively shake hands and move on from our decoy dispute. It got more heated than it should have. (2) I think predators and nest raiders definitely have a big hand in the problem. But I don’t know how to address that on a large scale, short of coming up with a brilliant business ...

Re: My thoughts..
I warn new hunters away from the use of dolls because they will ultimately be more successful and get more enjoyment without them. I think this comment is spot-on in so many regards. I regret it if I've given the impression I'm passionate the use of decoys or use them in efforts to "hit the ea...

There's lot of good discussion in this thread. SS, as I mentioned earlier here, I do sincerely appreciate you posting a link to the TWRA report regardless of our dust-up elsewhere. Re: My thoughts..
So your telling me on an internet turkey hunting forum, I can’t argue about turkey decoys? My God, man is nothing sacred? What about roost shooting and reaping? We don't have to stay quiet about those do we? Sacred, regarding the use of decoys, you can't be serious? You really use the term sacred? ...

Preach! I recall the origin of this forum. It's creation was largely driven by a moderator elsewhere who established the 40.1YD rule. TSS or Lead. Benelli or Remington or Stevens. Blind or set or run-n-gun. Diaphragm or slate or box. UBU, and as you said, Enjoy your hunt!

There you go again. Let's here it chapter and verse, the who, what and when I've routinely treated newbies. "You've been feasting on folks like the OP in this thread for years now. But, you really get touchy when the tables get turned, don't you?" Let's hear it. Debate 102...bury them in ...

Re: The one decoy you would not leave @ home
So you answer a question with a question? You don't see the difference? There is a lot of good natured ribbing that goes on here. None of it approached your level of vitriol. Mine certainly didn't. I offered him advice later. You mocked that. Someone else offered him similar advice. You didn't mock...

Why is mocking him they way you did in-bounds and the post on your friend off-limits? You get what you give, Gil. Carry on... You really don't see the difference between a post about the death of a friend and someone asking about using decoys? Maybe the optics would have been better had he died nex...

No, I don't get touchy except when someone says I am trading for sympathy on a 50 year friendship ending to take the focus off this childishness. Show me an example where I've done that, Budreaux. I don't presume to know anything about you and whether or not you've lost friends or family this month...

Re: Georgia season changes
I think very, very few people control blocks of land big enough include a turkey’s entire home range. Their range shrinks in the spring, but even still it would take thousands of acres for me to feel like I was the only one to have called at a turkey. SS, I really appreciate you bringing the TWRA T...

Wow, YOU of all people are filing a Hurt Feelings Report with all that you dish out! Re: The one decoy you would not leave @ home
You can be a turkey hunter or a turkey killer. The two aren't the same. Anyone who can point a shotgun out of a blind over a field with decoys and kill a turkey. If someone is elderly, infirm or a child, have at it with decoys. This is just sad, Gil. So, the best someone who is elderly, infirm or a...
