Beautiful Fall Morning

We are finally getting a little fall weather here in SC after Michael rolled through. Our rifle opener for my game zone was Thursday but with the storm I sat it out, could have went that afternoon, but I do not like hunting in a wind over 10 mph, even just gusts. Took off Friday cause it was suppose...

Re: Worth the wait.

sharp looking call, nice figured wood grain. how do you like how it draws air compared to the standard one? I like it a lot. Took a second to adjust as it is a faster rollover and you have to adjust your air draw to it. Personally I like the 5.5" better than the 6". He does seem to be hesitant to s...

Worth the wait.

Called Mr. Billy Buice right after the season ended to get a 5.5” trumpet from him. I have the 6” but after some friends raved over the 5.5” I had to try it. He said he did not have many built right now but an Ebony. He stated if I could wait he had some beautiful Desert Ironwood that would make a g...

Re: My Wife Killed Her First Turkey this Morning.

I've always figured the spurs tell the real story on age.A jake would be a year old.Or last years hatch. However,I will tell the missus she shot a gobble according to you guys. Oh yeah, the beard is 6 inches exactly.I didn't measure the spurs. Will take more photos and measurements and let you guys d...

Re: Turkey populations in your area

I think the coyote argument is b.s yeah they get lucky sometimes, but I've watched multiple multiple altercations in the field and most times turkey goes away unscathed. It is overall BS. Coyotes are not made to successfully hunt turkeys. When rushing a flock and the turkey takes to the air they do...

Re: Turkey populations in your area

This was the best year in the amount of birds we have had since 2012 on one property i hunt. Another property i hunt I am a bit concerned about. Usually hear good gobbling and this year it has been little to no gobbling though one bird was killed on the property.

Try the full and try a Carlson .575. The longer barrels seem to like a more open choke. Good luck!

Re: Mossberg 500, Carlson .575, BIG 20XL

That nice for the big 20 xl. I shot the same set up minus 2" of barrel. It will smoke a Turkey for sure. I now went to a shorter barreled 500, older youth model and still have shot 300 in the 10 at 40 with a hevi 13 choke. A sumtoy 562 will tighten it up even more. Sent from my SM-J727VPP using Tap...

Mossberg 500, Carlson .575, BIG 20XL

Decided to take the scope off my 500 and see if it shot bead. When I had scope on gun and the barrel was clean I would average around 325. When I shot to check bead there had been around 5-6 shots through the barrel. I did run a dry bore snake through it twice to get as much out as I could. When sho...

Thanks Ricky! As you know they grow up way too fast. I have really enjoyed watching your son's season, it is one any hunter would be proud to have! Nothing like being in the woods with them!

Was a good year in SC

Finished up on Good Friday around 11:15 am. Used my little 20 ga 11-87 this year shooting the bead. Has been some time since I shot bead but I fell back in love with it and plan to continue with it for a while. Been lucky to kill my 3 and watch 3 others die. Doubled with a buddy opening day (3/20) a...

Re: Over Choking Tungsten Causing Barrel Damage?

I believe it. When people are pushing 2.5 oz loads and .650 chokes then bad things will eventually happen. Never understood anything over a 2.25 oz load and even that can be a bit much. If I did not already have everything for the 1 5/8 oz 20 ga load I shoot I would drop to the 1 7/16 oz.

You almost didn’t get that one! I was over there a couple weeks ago and that was one that I had my eye on. It’s a pretty piece of wood. Ended up staying with my initial choice of mud cured Osage. I’ll post a pic when I get it. He can sure run one, Tom. You should hear him now. And maybe you have. H...
