Re: 410 vs 20ga youth starter gun

My uncle who was 85 when he died this past fall was a major league pitcher and had been instructed by Lucky McDaniel as part of Spring Training for hand-to-eye coordination for batting and throwing while playing baseball. My uncle always had a sightless BB gun on hand and up until his death could h...

Re: 410 vs 20ga youth starter gun

4 years ago I had customized a Yildiz single-shot .410 with red dot for a late buddy. The gun weighed 3.25 lbs. and I loaded some 13/16 oz. sub sonic loads of #9 for him. His son called me this week to tell me he cut 2" off the stock and took his two sons, 6 and 11, for the youth opener. His 6 ...

Excellent video of the "One Shot Zero" technique. I prefer setting up for 40 rather than 30, but their point is made. Dave Owen has a video but this one is better because Dave takes the gun off the stand to make "click" adjustments. Gil

Use a compass to course the bird, especially in the dark. If he shuts up, you still know the direction. Side stepping thickets, water, etc. can get you off direction, but the compass will show the way. Gil

I spray clothes with Sawyers' once a season for turkeys and once during quail and woodcock season. There's some bad stuff in some tick bites. I know a woman who was in intensive care due to a bite. B-I-L has Lyme's disease contracted from a tick while working on a Georgia barrier island. Gil

Re: It's just not fair

Years ago I was invited by a friend to hunt an area I'd never been before on private land. Sure enough, I heard the gobble and he answered. I then heard a grinding, rattling mechanical noise behind me at about 100 years. I was between the noise and the gobbler. Shortly after the grinding stopped, th...

Attach a piece covering a real estate banjo sign which can be harvested at night in fro...

Re: TSS in older guns?

While a Stevens may be a family heirloom with sentimental value, unless it is in fine close to unused condition, its value to a collector would not be in the same range as a Parker or LC Smith in American made vintage doubles. If it is old, the wood be more fragile than newer wood and while I wouldn...

Over the years there have been several authors that posted info on their muzzle loaders. Can't recall names but one fellow made some beautiful guns and he gave some loading info using tss if I recall correctly.

Re: Thoughts on a 4Runner

You forgot to mention that the Lexus is probably 20 thousand more. If you reread what I said was contrary to what you wrote. Not that long ago a used 4R was higher in cost to purchase than a used Lexus 460GX for the same year. Whether that's true now or not, I don't know, but the Lexus depreciated ...

Re: Aging gobblers

There's a good reason why birds shouldn't be weighed, or beard and spurs measured. You deprive the bird of gaining weight, beards and spurs from lengthening after death when you retell the story. Weighing and measuring cements weight and length for all times unless you are willing to lie. Gil

If you do a lot of towing, you may want to consider the Lexus 460GX. V-8 and is a re-badged Prado which is the smaller Land Cruiser sold everywhere but here. Full time 4WD with center lock diff. I prefer the set up of the 4R, however. The 460GX has air suspension which can be pricey to repair. The &...

It's okay to drive like that if you are hit by a job site concrete mixer that fell off of a trailer into your lane at a closing speed in excess of 100 mph. Gil

The wheels on my 2022 are 17". Dunno what your Taco wheel size is. Soon after I bought the 2022 I replaced the tires with ones with more aggressive tread. The ones that came on it were called All Terrain, but were more suitable for highway driving than what I needed. I offered the tires to a ma...

I've had two, a 2016 XE and currently have a 2022 TRD Off Road after the XE was totaled. I prefer all things covered as well; I have bird dogs and drive 1.5 hours each way on occasion and feel better about keeping them out of the cold at highway speed. The TRD Off Road has all the features of the TR...

I've made copper and aluminum calls by breaking the top glass on a Lil Duece (old style) and silicone gluing the metal disks into place. Not as pretty as a turned wooden pot, but works fine. I prefer the Lil Duece with the glass surface, however. Glass is less fussy to prepare the surface for consis...

The first and most elementary thing which you need to do is determine eye dominance for both of the girls and proceed from there, teaching them to shoot w/ both eyes open. I'm a big fan of BB guns and plastic milk jugs and coke cans to teach gun safety, handling, stationary and wing shooting. I had...
