Re: Red dot removal

There isn't any rhyme nor reason why some items appreciate substantially and other things don't. In 1975, I paid $250 retail for a used1969 Rolex GMT Master wristwatch with the "Pepsi Cola" colored bezel at a highbrow jewelry store locally. The same watch now shows up for an average of $9-10,000. Hi...

Re: Red dot removal

Rare is the person who can consider guns as an investment. There's an old saying about guns increasing in value. "Money is made when the gun is bought, not sold." The market for SxS shotguns has been down for several years. It's a buyer's market on most guns, not a seller's, for most of us. The sale...

Re: Red dot removal

Justify the purchase of another gun? It's Monday. Tomorrow is Tuesday, etc. I just got paid. I don't have to pay the electric bill for two weeks. Fishing season is over. I need it, or maybe just want it. I already have all I need. It goes on, and on. Gil

Re: Mounting Vortex Venom on CZ Bobwhite 28 gauge

The Bobwhite has no vent rib. The rib separating the barrels is hollow and care must be taken to flatten it so that it isn't thinned more than necessary to mount a base for a red dot or direct mount a peep sight.

Even at 6 lbs, your LE as you say is a good carry. I like the way a single-shot sits on the knee without rattling and its slenderness makes for a good single hand carry.

LOL...yeah, right now, toes, fingers, and noses aren't safe either! 8 years ago when I got my first Britt, Abby, there was a published estimate of damage done by a chewing dog that spends time in the house. The average was $750. I think we exceeded that. Also, think twice about rawhide toys. I've h...

He paid the price for not accepting responsibility. What was he thinking? He wasn't penalized for exercising his right to trial by jury, he just wasn't rewarded for accepting responsibility by pleading guilty. Not the first time I've seen idiots pay the price for thinking they can game a jury. The s...

Re: Making a bamboo fly rod

Thanks, Fellas. The rod is 7'9" for a 5 weight line. I had considered making an 8' for 8 wt saltwater, but the plan is for this rod to eventually go to my daughter who also loves to fly fish for trout and she lives in NY. As I've noted, I've had all but a few items needed to make them here at home b...

Re: To all Our Florida Members & Friends

A friend sister has a condo at Mexico Beach. She let the housekeepers stay as they weren't able to evacuate. They were in an upper floor and survived and sent text photos of the flooding. Unbelievable damage. Michael swinging up through SW Georgia into central Georgia is going to devastate crops, es...

I've seen photos texted from Mexico Beach. It wiped out a huge marina building for dry storage of large boats. I see hurricane warnings for Macon, GA! Hope you guys in SW and middle Georgia don't get hit too bad. Gil

Here's close-up of the cut-off piece between the rod sections. It's from the butt section and is about .375" across the flats. The darkerpower fibers are in about an 1/8" from the outside inwards. Every effort is made not to compromise or thin the outer portion. The white area is the pith which adds...

Making a bamboo fly rod

I retired September 28th and hit the ground running in Blue Ridge, Ga., Monday October 1 through the 6th, for Bill Oyster's course. I have for decades been hankering to make a split cane rod, but never got the round 'toit. I've had the cane, planes, forms, etc. for over 15 years but didn't feel comf...

Aside from losing a human family member, there is no worse heartache than losing a family dog. We've all been there, Ronnie, and we understand how you feel. It's been over 7 years since I put down old Roscoe and I still miss that old boy. Struggling with the emptiness of losing him, I found a source...

Re: Coffee..

For the past 18 years I've used a 10 cup Moccamaster by Technivorm out of the Netherlands. It uses a #4 Merlita filter and makes a great cup of coffee. I go through a 12 oz. bag of coffee every 4 days. There's a local roaster that knows how to roast a dark coffee without giving it a burned taste. I ...

Your mobile home set up in the truck looks very efficient. Never, ever turn on your butane heater in the closed up truck cap and lay down on the cot thinking you'll get up and turn it off before going to sleep. After hunting all day and drinking a beer or two and laying down worn out with the heater...

Thoughts are with y'all in the path. I rode out Matthew and Irma here. Wouldn't begin to stay put in a 3 or worse. I evacuated in Floyd and Hugo. Hugo had us dead in its sights but upticked a notch to the north and clobbered Charleston. Gil
