Re: New regulations for SC

Regarding hens that do not nest, are there jennies which nest outside the study period and old hens past fertile years? I think if I wanted to get rid of turkeys in an area I could come up with a good strategy as follows: gobble up habitat with a housing boom, bolster numbers of avian predators, pr...

Re: Summer Project Gun

I think Walmart had/has them for $99. I cut a barrel off to 18.5" for a guy at work and that is where he got his. That was last year so the price may have gone up. If I am not mistaken WalMart carries the Hatfield Folder which is a hammergun and Academy has the exclusive on Yildiz which is hammerle...

Academy Sports, Brunswick, Ga. $139+ list; $150 after tax. Going to choke it with an overall length so that when it's folded, the barrel and buttplate will be flush. Thinking about putting a Skinner post and adjustable peep sight on it. It has solid steel rib which will be used to anchor sights. Sli...

Re: New regulations for SC

SC seems to be proactive in doing something about the population decline. Years ago the state took a stand against fall hunting partly because of a recognition of human nature acknowledging that poaching turkeys, ie, baiting and rifle kills, would be an issue in an overlapping deer season. http://ww...

Re: What do I think

Dave and company do a tad too much crawling around on public land. It kills birds, but he must trust other public hunters more than I do. I used to think there was a big difference between contest call winners and turkey hunters, but after seeing the poultry stack up in his videos, I can see my old ...

If I find shot holes in the breast, I cut the breast in thin strips looking for bloodlines which I cut out. Usually, so far, all have been complete pass throughs.

With the advent of gps tracking devices combined with old-school telemetry and Yagi directional antennas, turkey studies are more sophisticated than decades ago when the theory that males are surplus once the season started and the population wouldn't be harmed by hunting (other than the shot turkey...

Re: New regulations for SC

Rest of the article: "The legislature changed turkey hunting regulations and enacted a statewide season running from March 20-May 5 in 2016, which opened the season earlier and added about 50 percent more hunting days to the season. “There was some angst about that among some folks and I think that ...

New regulations for SC

From the Post and Courier: "The South Carolina legislature has passed new regulations governing the hunting of wild turkeys in an effort to slow the population decline. The major takes from the new legislation is a return to split seasons and a limit of one bird during the first 10 days of the seaso...

Re: Lost my best friend

It's quite a bargain we make when we get a puppy. We know they will give us unconditional loyalty and love and we agree to do what we must do when the time comes. If it wasn't for the love, companionship and loyalty they freely give in the "now", we would never have one because of the "then". It is ...

Two in two days with the Savage 301 410. Federal factory #9's. Factory choke, extra full. First bird with a .410. I have to admit, it was easier than with a bow and arrow.
Great job. You ever get the Baikal MP18 20 ga. up and running after the red dot battery failure? Gil

Re: Ol Tom Vestless Shirt

That's good to know. The other problem I had with the shirt was the coil zippers kept pulling apart off track. I remedied that by having a seamstress replace the original zippers with brass zippers. Do the pockets also close with magnets? That made compass reading a concern. Gil

Anyone have a recent mfg'd one? Are the sleeves waterproof? I have an early version that has an elegant solution to a problem that didn't exist. The sleeves were lined with a waterproof surface so that one's arms wouldn't get wet from morning dew, totally ignoring the poncho effect of sweat build up...
