Re: Best reflex sight

Better is the enemy of good enough. The Fast Fire series is a cheaper (less expensive, not shoddy) version of the more expensive Docter series. Big plus for FF series is Burris's customer service. There must be hundreds of them in use and rarely is heard a complaint here or on other boards.

Re: NotreDame Oklahoma..

Anyone hear how Purdue did in the bowl game? Just curious... I can still see Woody Hayes running out on the field during a play and punching the Clemson linebacker Charlie Bauman after he intercepted a pass with two minutes to go in the 1978 Gator Bowl. Woody was gone after that craziness. Woody mus...

Re: Sights on Yildiz .410 Single

In looking at one with the stock removed, there appears to be enough metal thickness above the pin to judiciously drill and tap for screws. It's also a fairly flat surface. Seems I recall someone who cast a base to fit that section of the action. There was a poster from W. VA. who hotglued a piece o...

Re: NotreDame Oklahoma..

Dad caught the go-ahead TD against the Gamecocks in 1942. Best story he told me about his playing days was against BC played at Fenway. BC was a national powerhouse rated at the top. Tigers lost 14-7. One of the Tiger receivers dropped a pass in the endzone that hit him in the numbers. Dad said he d...

Re: NotreDame Oklahoma..

Any doubt that UGA would have given 'Bama or Clemson a better game? ND's signature win was against Meecheegan who got slapped around by FL. They also beat Vandy 22-17. Wow. But the play=offs are about TV and there is nationwide SEC fatigue and TV is about ratings and commercial sponsors. However, it...

One time I left my gun. thankfully I remembered and was able to turn back and get it. would've never lived that one down if I had made it to the turkey woods Back, way back, when I was burning candle at both ends, up late at night and still managing to hunt turkeys in the a.m., I got on the road ea...

Re: Savage 220A .410

Steve, nice looking gun. I have a 220B .410, a 220A 20 and 220? 16 ga. My .410 is heavier than the 20, but others say their .410 220s are lighter than mine by a half pound or so. Have you weighed it yet? The extra weight is no big deal and would help smooth out the punchy loads we shoot. As you know...

Re: beretta silver pigeon 1 20 ga

Welcome aboard on your first post. I believe Spuriosity has a 12 gauge which he uses for turkeys. Fine gun you have there. It is a trouble free design based on the 686 with a little fancier wood and some cosmetic metal work design. I sold mine last year to free up funds for another 20 ga. It was a D...

Hoobilly, thanks. The doubles shown are Floyd's Ithaca SKB 100 20 ga. He's had it for over 50 years, a gift from his dad. Years ago, he shortened the stock for his son, but his son lost interest and Floyd restocked it. He rarely misses with it. Billy is also a deadeye. Yesterday he shot the field li...

Bird Doggin'

Bird doggin’ Taking a break from woodcock, Floyd and I got an invite to hunt wild quail last Saturday with a friend in another part of the state. From just after 8 a.m. to just after 11 a.m., we found 7 large coveys. We had solid points on six of the coveys. The other flushed wild unseen, but heard ...

Re: New Stevens 301 Turkey .410

There are some other good, economical choices for .410 single-shots when it comes to weight and finish. One of the more recent entries is the Midland with 18.5" (4.55 lbs) and 22" (4.65 lbs.) barrels and sub 5 lb. weight. It is the "folder" type without an exposed hammer similar to the Yildiz and ol...

If you don't get the entire sounder there will be problems. Some folks have success with corral fencing traps with the gate remotely closed once all of them are inside.

Re: Red dot removal

There isn't any rhyme nor reason why some items appreciate substantially and other things don't. In 1975, I paid $250 retail for a used1969 Rolex GMT Master wristwatch with the "Pepsi Cola" colored bezel at a highbrow jewelry store locally. The same watch now shows up for an average of $9-10,000. Hi...

Re: Red dot removal

Rare is the person who can consider guns as an investment. There's an old saying about guns increasing in value. "Money is made when the gun is bought, not sold." The market for SxS shotguns has been down for several years. It's a buyer's market on most guns, not a seller's, for most of us. The sale...

Justify the purchase of another gun? It's Monday. Tomorrow is Tuesday, etc. I just got paid. I don't have to pay the electric bill for two weeks. Fishing season is over. I need it, or maybe just want it. I already have all I need. It goes on, and on. Gil

Re: Mounting Vortex Venom on CZ Bobwhite 28 gauge

The Bobwhite has no vent rib. The rib separating the barrels is hollow and care must be taken to flatten it so that it isn't thinned more than necessary to mount a base for a red dot or direct mount a peep sight.

Even at 6 lbs, your LE as you say is a good carry. I like the way a single-shot sits on the knee without rattling and its slenderness makes for a good single hand carry.
