Re: Roll crimp Vs. Fold/star crimp? TSS

Both; just depends on the load. Don't really think either is inherently better.

Re: TSS 9's at 1200 fps have 1.25" penetration distance.

Yes, they have the juice out there, but with wind and drop it is extremely difficult to center the pattern core on a turkey's head at those distances. And the pattern will likely have gone south by then anyway. I think it is imperative to carry a range-finder if contemplating any shot beyond "normal...

I am new to gobbler nation and not quite sure how to ask a question but here
goes. Federal's new TSS load in 20 ga 9's has a velocity of 1000 fps, how far can it penetrate ballistic gel by 1.25"?

Re: Choke for TSS #8 and #9s 12ga 3in?

Too tight can blow your pattern, meaning it may get crazy 10" numbers, but the pattern will be splotchy, uneven, and inconsistent. Too tight may just give you a smaller room for error with a super tight pattern with a very high percentage in 10" and none left for 20" that looks cool on paper. Most ...

I agree with GLS about the powder trickler and shot dipper. Been doing it with a spoon for decades. ;)

Experimented a lot, and was able to equal but not beat conventional lead loads from Winchester. No way you can touch LBs.

Can't recommend the program highly enough. It answers so many questions. Worth it in my opinion at four times the asking price.

Re: Shotgun sights

Now age 56, I started having the same problem about 10 years ago resolving two fiber optic sights as well as the turkey. Put FFs on both my turkey guns and never looked back. TSS will only make the problem worse. I much prefer 1 oz red dots to 12-16 oz scopes. Your confidence will go up markedly, kn...

Never seen or even heard of TSS 8s or 9s harming a barrel or choke tube. But I can see how steel BBs, BBBs, and Ts could.

Re: Short range patterns...what do you like to see?

I've solved that issue with my O/U...1.25 oz of reclaimed mixed 8.5x9s through a LM choke yielding 110/10 @ 40 with big forgiving patterns @ 20. ST .675 and 1.625 oz of new, layered 8.5s over 9s that yield the same number at 60. Do you notice a big difference in patterns with the reclaimed? My hunt...

Re: 20 Ga. Clear Overshot Cards?????

And if the 20s are like the 12s, they are frangible, i.e. they shatter upon ignition and get out of the way of the shot. The theory being that they improve patterns compared to cardboard OSCs. Additionally there is no need to waterproof them.

Re: 20ga vs 12ga with TSS?

Show me a 12 ga 3 or 3.5" gun that will put 300 5s in a 10" circle at 40 yds and I will eat your hat. Or, show me a #6 lead pellet that has the energy to kill a turkey at 70 yds and I will eat your hat. A 20 ga shooting 1&5/8 oz of TSS 9s will easily do both those things with lots less recoil and a ...

Re: 15gcc 7s

TSS 8.5s would be the closest with slighter better penetration from the TSS (2.48" vs 2.4" for the 15 gm 7s @ 1200 fps and 40 yds). TSS 9s would be 2.23".

Re: 15gcc 7s

Could you load these 15gcc sevens with the same load data for the 18gcc tss without changing pressure or velocity.? NO! If you use 18 gm/cc data, the same weight of 15 gm/cc shot will have more volume, creating a taller column of shot. A taller column of shot will have more bearing surface and will...
