Re: Permethrin

I started out mixing it 1 oz to 20 oz of water but was still finding the occasional tick. Started mixing it 1/16 and have seen no more ticks. BTW, I wear a set of Gamehide Elimitick camo for turkey hunting. I spray my snake boots, vest, hat, and gloves with permethrin. I have never gotten a tick on...

Re: Bacterial tick infections/disease

I had an internal medicine physician that is now retired that always prescribed a single dose of doxycycline after a tick bite. My current physician does not recommend it. Fortunately, since starting to wear Elimitick clothing and spraying my snake boots, vest, hat, gloves, etc., I have not had an a...

Because it will kill all day every day with a low recoil 1&5/8 oz load. Why would I beat myself up with a 2 oz lead load that is iffy past 45?

Re: Carlsons

I would not run a .640 with TSS. I shoot .675s in my Rem 1187 and Beretta 686s. I would not want the patterns any tighter and the tighter you go, the more chance there is for blown patterns from an overchoking.

Re: Turkey ammo trajectory?

Thanks Spuriosity, I figured there had to be some data somewhere like that. A little surprised at the drop at 40 yards! I hunt anywhere from a few hundred feet of elevation all the way to 10k, that difference would be interesting as well. But if zero'd at 40, by definition, there is no drop at 40. ...

Re: Turkey ammo trajectory?

Not exactly what you are asking, but KPY Ballistics will calculate drop for any size shot of different materials at various distances and velocities for various environmental conditions. I assume these numbers are generated with a level gun and aren't really trajectory numbers where the gun is incli...

Re: TSS in older guns?

While a Stevens may be a family heirloom with sentimental value, unless it is in fine close to unused condition, its value to a collector would not be in the same range as a Parker or LC Smith in American made vintage doubles. If it is old, the wood be more fragile than newer wood and while I would...

I am no expert as I do not own any suppressors, but am interested and am thinking about taking the plunge. I have heard good things about Silencer Central. They are supposed to take care of all the paperwork and simplify the process. I'm sure they could give you the skinny if you contact them.

I weighed about 40 bullets. The heaviest was 131.4gr, and the lightest was 130.7gr. Most were within .1gr.
Would anyone think that is enough to show up on paper at 100 yards?

I completely agree about the triggers. Recently bought a12 ga Mossberg Maverick security. It has by far the worst trigger I have ever seen on a shotgun. That one will be going down the road soon.

Re: Zamberlan boots

I am a big fan. I found a great deal on a pair of Zamberlan uninsulated boots on Sierra Trading Post to grouse hunt in about 10 years ago. They fit like a glove (true to size) and held up like a tank. They are very light and a little taller than most. After years and years and 100s of miles of grous...

Re: Apex small town or straight 9s

Full disclosure: I have never shot the "Small town Blends" or any other Apex offering for that matter as I have handloaded since long before Apex was a thing. But I would strongly prefer the straight 9s: they are a superior shell. Adding 7.5s merely decrease the total pellets in the load, ...

I shoot 105 by volume (73.5 by weight) of BH 209 with CCI 209M primers in my Rem 700 ML that has had a Badger Ridge conversion done for deer. That charge yields 1828 fps with a Barnes 290 T-EZ. For elk, I loaded 115 by volume (80 by weight) yielding 1879 fps with the same bullet. Recoil is stout wit...

Re: Berreta A300 turkey gun 20 gauge Choke? TSS?

I agree that forcing cone work for TSS would be a waste of money. Can't help you with chokes as I don't shoot a 20, but ST makes great chokes. I run one in my Beretta 686UL 12 ga and it is lights out with a 1&5/8 oz load of TSS 9s. I'm sure he can do the same for a 20 gauge, probably a .562. How...

Re: Foot pounds of felt recoil ?

FYI The "softest" shooting muzzle loader I've ever shot was a 50 cal. Austin & Halleck 520 which was converted to utilize a 209 primer. The weight of the rifle, stock and recoil pad design, a 3 lb trigger, and the 70 gr by weight charge of BH 209 behind a Hornady 240 gr XTP bullet all...

Data you need to know is projectile weight, powder weight, gun weight, and velocity. Assuming 9 pound gun, 300 grain bullet, 100 grains powder, 1750 fps - 37 ft-lbs If you shoot the 250 gr Barnes - a little less. If your gun weighs less than 9 pounds - a little more. Thanks Spur. All strong patterns, but especially the second one. How much do those guns weigh and what is the velocity of that 1&5/8 oz load? Not sure on the guns weight I know its light. The load right at 1050fps Thanks. TSS is the great equalizer. It's amazing to me that you can run a load that heavy at t...
