I appreciate you going to the trouble, George. It looks even better than it sounds and like I said, it sounded good. I've definitely got to try it now. Thanks!

Re: Mouth Calls vs Friction Calls and Trumpet style calls
I used a bunch of different calls when I was younger, but over the years I've settled on a couple different mouth calls and a wing bone. They all work, I think It's a matter of personal preference and what you have confidence in.

I've never used varnish and laugh if you want to, but I've always used clear fingernail polish. I paint it on and inside the bone with the little brush. A couple coats and when it dries, I've never noticed any smell. Of course I do it when Shari isn't home and she never knows.

I can't see the pictures, but it sounds great. I love red beans and rice and this is a little different. I don't have a pressure cooker, but I'm gonna wing it on the stove top. Thanks!

I know this is an older thread, but I enjoyed your story so much I had to post. I was right there with 'ya brother. I even caught myself holding my breath while I was reading the part where he came right up next to you. I love the rush of having birds that close and knowing that the slightest moveme...

I forgot to add that I showed the pics of your work to my taxidermist. He's been at it for many years and he's good at what he does. He was so impressed with your work, that he was left speechless. All he could do was stand there shaking his head. I just wanted to pass the compliment along to you.

Re: Some of my work
Man, I wish I'd known about you years ago. I don't have any mounts that even come close to the caliber of your work. It's just..... Spectacular!! I've often toyed with the idea of getting into taxidermy, myself. I know you must be swamped with work, but would you consider being my mentor? Could we d...

Re: Who were your mentors?
Speaking about mentors.. now that I look back at the fellers who I have had the chance to hunt with, I learn different ways of hunting. So I guess that’s also kinda like a mentor I'll add the turkeys that whipped my butt too, some of them repeatedly. I used to get mad and downright disgusted with t...

Re: Favorite Hunt of the 2018 Season
Great read Fdept56, thanks for sharing it with us. Wonderful memories, for sure. I spent a lot of time with my Grandfather growing up. There were no turkeys in the Adirondacks back then, but we hunted snowshoes hares with his beagles, ruffed grouse, fished for small stream brookies and ice fished fo...

We'll be out there one way or another, Grumpy. If I have to at some point, I'll buy a hooped up four wheel drive rascal scooter, complete with a camo paint job and mudder tires. Whatever it takes.
You guys feel free to post pictures if you want to. I LOVE turkey pics.

Re: 4 More Months
I agree with you 100%. We used to have turkeys in almost every field around here in the spring. The past several years were terrible, but I'm starting to see an upswing in their numbers in my area. Nothing spectacular, but It's encouraging. I'm hoping there are enough toms around this spring that I ...

4 More Months
Our spring season opens May 1st here in NY. We haven't had the birds here around home that we used to have, but things have been looking up some the past couple years. I saw more poults last year than I've been seeing and I had a couple hens and young birds feeding on the lawn this past summer and i...

Hookspur, congrats on your books. Don't take it personally if I don't order them for a while. Money is so tight here right now, that I'm not even sure if we'll be able to afford our annual trip around the sun this year.
