Re: Over Choking Tungsten Causing Barrel Damage?

Oh I have no doubt that sloppy knows how to do it. I was joking about the hard candy, but I would like to know how he does it. I am sorry but this is one avenue even the Slopster is going to avoid from posting publically (nor will I provide any information privately). Here's why: the process is not...

Re: Shotgun sights

Whenever anyone gets sick of the multitude of issues you will have with a saddle mount on a shotgun, take the plunge and have the DaMar Shotgun scope mount professionally installed on your turkey shotgun. You will thank me later.

Cut a notch out in the stock and build it up with fiberglass repair kit material. Sand smooth and paint.

Re: Shotgun sights

Reflex or holographic or red dot sights. <-- take your pick.

Personally, I don't use turkey riflescopes as I never want to be in a position where I could have an issue with head placement behind the ocular.

Of course, your mileage will vary.

Re: 3" 20Ga shell OAL loaded in Benelli/Franchi

But aren't you actually only rolling down a little more than half the .375? "3.000" - 0.375" = 2.625" BPI roll crimped OAL shotshell length." Good catch. That is correct. Reloader would have to measure his actual shell's OAL because I do not know how tight his BPI roll crimper crimps during the rol...

Re: Are SumToy Choke Tubes Hardened?

Work hardened from machining: yes. Depending on the steel utilized for the choke, the metal itself could be pre-hardened before it is even machined. Several suitable steels exist for choke tubes but many utilize 17-4 PH stainless steel. PH represents "precipitation hardened." Very few choke manufact...

Re: 3" 20Ga shell OAL loaded in Benelli/Franchi

Thanks Ronny. Good information and I've noted this in my reloading notebook. That said, the critical piece of information in your post (my interpretation) is that you are rolling down 3/8" of plastic on the hull. 3/8" = 0.375" (decimal representation) Assuming your hull is actually 3.000" in length,...

Re: 3" 20Ga shell OAL loaded in Benelli/Franchi

If you really want to read a good read on this topic, read the following link (be advised it is a lot of reading with ample pictures). The experimental roll crimped shell information is about 3/4 of the way down using the scroll bar on the right of your screen. ;) LINK: Reloading Modern 20 Gauge Inf...

"Magic Numbers:" 3" 20GA OAL for Benelli/Franchi

For Benelli and Franchi autoloading 20GA shotguns, a cartridge overall length of 2.67" or less is required if you wish the shotgun to cycle from magazine tube through the action and into the chamber. For roll crimping 20 gauge Fiocchi and Cheddite hulls, trim the 3-inch 20 gauge hulls to 2.80" (uncr...

Re: Federal TSS

No worries guys,,, once Federal runs out of wads (soft, hard, medium-rare, whatever), the next wad they use will be completely different in hardness/softness. Then you can start the testing process all over again.

General advice? Load your own.

Nikon Monarchs 3,5, or 7 series! Leupold cannot match its picture clarity in low light. My Monarch 3 with 4-16x42 will make you rethink the whole overpriced Leupold VX-2 or higher claims. Vortex may be another option but I would stay in the Viper HS series for the smaller money you say you can spend...
