Re: Turkey season is over....
Very nice. Great cartridge. Did you go with a fast twist barrel for the heavier bullets? I've read fantastic stuff on the Hornady 105gr. AMax's, but my 1/10" Tikka .243 wouldn't stabilize them (didn't think it would, but just had to try).

Re: My future hunting partner.
Congratulations! They do grow up fast - ours are 7 (son) and 9 (daughter). God blessed me with a nice tom this year, when I had them sitting on each side of me. Words can't describe getting hugged by both at once with a nice tom to carry home. :D You have plenty of challenges and rewards in your fut...

To hen or not to hen?
I'm headed to NY this weekend, to carry my flintlock and a couple turkey tags around the woods. Reports are the hens have started setting and the toms may be somewhat cooperative. Now, I've been to NY 4x and have passed on jakes but never had a chance on a mature tom. Due to my 4 previous failures, ...

Re: 2017 MT spring turkey is over
Well, that was one heck of a successful trip! I was reading the middle paragraph and wondering when the rock-salt was gonna get shot at your backside, but just goes to show how asking properly with a pleasant demeanor can work. Once upon a time I got permission from a very nice farmer to h...

Re: 11-87 reliability
Don't know about the newer guns, but a good friend has been running a 3" 11-87 camo for years (I think it's a mid-90's gun) with never a hiccup. We learned about the spring in thre stock though when it rusted right up and seized - never even knew it was there. So if you get one, make sure to po...

This is great stuff, for sure. You're right, people forget that every latest improvement isn't about getting further and further from the game we hunt, its about improving efficiency and maybe opening doors to new opportunities. We all hunt different ways and for different reasons. For me now, its a...

Personally, I don't make a sound at him until he's on the ground. The only exception to that would be if there is a yappy hen the far side of him, and then I might give him a tree yelp or couple soft clucks (whichever is most appropriate at the time), just to get his mind on me. Then I let fate take...

Oh no! Should get that gobbler done as a full body mount, and have a copy of your hospital bill with blood spatter lying on the forest floor at his feet. Very memorable, indeed.

Yeah, we're only an hour from Watertown, NY. I'll miss the store being there, as it was not far away and gave an excuse to get some buddies or the family in the truck and go for a look. Friends were at the store there a couple days ago and said no real deals yet. 15-20% off. I will say I've got seve...

Nice job! We're done at 2 here in ON. I wish it weren't so, but we have a good turkey population so I'll trust the MNR knows how to manage it properly.
Great looking gobbler, and I love the MO Bottomland.
