Re: Calls that seem to work when nothing else will

Tube and wing bone really seem to work in those tough days. Some days nothing I try will work though. I've made a few strikers from Black Locust that sound a little different than most and like em a lot.

Turkeys are gobbling in NW NC!

Ivermectin is the only cure I will be taking. You couldn't make me take a vaccine of any kind after all the videos I have watched.

I mounted my red dot low enough to see my rifle sights (installed on the rib) through the scope just encase the battery goes dead.

Re: Bird numbers

Here in NW NC we are way down from what I have seen in the past. I usually fill my tags in NC and nearby Va but have gone several days without even hearing a gobble. I remember back in the 80's when you could go all season and might not hear but one or two birds all season. It was hard to find a bir...

Re: Off The Roost Tactics

Depends on the time of season for me. Early in the season I will be pretty vocal because theres a lot of competition with all the hens. IF I can get a hen fired up I duplicate her calling and often the whole flock will come following her with the gobbler in tow. Late in the season especially if its ...

Re: Close Call!!!!

I got sprayed so many times when I was a young trapper when my older brother finally moved away he said the one thing that reminded him of home was when he passed a dead skunk on the highway. Skunk scent doesn't bother me in the least. Its just another smell. Picked up a young skunk once at a multi ...

Re: Smokeless Muzzleloader in the works

How much are the barrels? Would they be cheaper if you ordered two or more? You going with SS or Chrome moly? IS the barrel already threaded for the breach plug? I am going to have to sit down and decide what caliber I really want.

Keep us posted!

Re: Smokeless Muzzleloader in the works

I have 3 of the Remmys; 2-.50 cal and 1-.45. Been thinking about maybe a .40 or even a .375 smokeless BUT I don't think anything less than .45 is legal in Va. I need to look again. Let me know if you decide to sell your Encore barrel. Might be interested for it for my son. Keep us posted with what y...

Re: Bolt action build ???

All you will need to build rifles is a lathe and some measuring tools and test indicators. Not counting chamber reamer and "GO GAUGE". I don't use a "NO GO" gauge but chamber just to barely close the bolt on a "GO GUAGE". You can rent reamers. IF you are going to purcha...

You need to leave part of the plot without the "treatment" you are using so you can tell the difference it is making.

Re: Anyone ever

You would have to set it up very shallow. Maybe cut off the bottom of the chute. All the tobacco setters I used run about 4" deep. You wouldn't want to be over 2" deep at most.
