Well I have an 870 SM and shoot 3.5" Nitro 4x5x7's out of it. It kicks like two mules shot in the azz! I ended up buying a Lead Sled to sight it in. I can't imagine anything kicking more than that!

I probably wouldn't have gone that deep into the property without knowing where the birds were roosted. Hang back until you locate them and then you'll know how far you can go.
As far as the calling, do what Tail Feathers suggested. If he's hot, then answer his gobbles, but over calling is an issue.

Holy crap, I just shot one of the crushers....I shot it at 150 yards and I stopped counting at 400 hits in a 10" circle. Too bad I didn't have my phone to take a picture. Just amazing!!!
