Re: Mossberg overunder turkey is now a thing
Sounds good. I’m gonna go back in Monday and probably pick either this or the SA-20 up.

Re: Mossberg overunder turkey is now a thing
Anybody shot this gun? Have a gift card to local gun/hunting store and eyeing this or the SA-20. Or I could just pickup the SA-28 tactical haha.

Re: go to diaphragm calls
bcturkeynut that is my favorite as well. I have used that call for years. It will do it all for me. Loud, soft, great yelps, and soft talk. The Primos Will Primos-1 is a good substitute (not sure if they still make it I have a stash). To the op, it all depends on the fit and air travel. You have to ...

Re: SBE I Bead Question
I have a SBE I that only has a one white bead. Looks like it's almost a plastic type substance. It protrudes slightly facing back toward the shooter. I've asked my dad and he says it's the original bead that was on it when he bought it back in the early 90s. We have three newer SBE I's and they all ...

Re: Harvest #s on hunting clubs
Yeah they definitely aren't killing near as many as they used to. The flooding has definitely taken it's toll on the hatches. I think most of the place was clearcut in the late 80s/early 90s, so much of it is just now starting to open back up into turkey habitat. I will say this though. A few years ...

Re: Harvest #s on hunting clubs
Interesting thread. It reminds me of a snapshot I took of the harvest totals a hunting club in the Mississippi Delta. My buddies grandfather still had the book in their cabin of the records they kept from the 60s through the mid-80s. This place is 3,000 acres of prime habitat inside the Mississippi ...

Same here. Jakes aren't legal. Basically I meant they'll come up to take a look. Sometimes they will just pop their head up and that's all you can see. In that case I don't shoot. Most times though they'll show enough to see their beard.

Can be deadly. I usually only use it if I'm working a bird that won't come all the way in. Haven't used it much but have been successful with it in the past.

Re: Need a fresh idea for these birds. They come in & don't
They're just waiting on the hen to show herself or come to them. That's what's supposed to happen anyways. You've already tried my first suggestion which would be to scratch leaves. What kind of terrain is it? If it's got some contour you could use that to your advantage. Whenever I'm working a bird...

Re: Decline in bird population
I have read in a few places that the supposed strategy for setting seasons was to start after the peak of breeding. Have they ever actually done that anywhere? Not sure. I think that Arkansas may have moved their season to start later several years ago, and I think Louisiana may be doing the same. ...

Re: Decline in bird population
Biologists are re-thinking the "when" effect of killing gobblers on overall future population. There's some thought that the season comes in too early for successful breeding of hens in Louisiana. The data may support this. There was a thread on this not long ago. No doubt the killing bir...

Jackson. Be more specific, I'm in Madison. If your name references hunting the refuge while at State, those birds out there took me to school every time I tried. Welcome. FC Northeast Jackson. Pretty close to JA. Sorry was trying to reply amongst a busy day at work. I haven't hunted the refuge, but...

New guy here
Hey everyone. Been lurking for a while and finally decided to join. I live in Mississippi and already can't sleep at night due to our turkey season being just a few weeks away. It's good to know I'll be in the company of people who have the turkey hunting bug as bad or worse than I do haha.
