Re: How old is ths buck

Following up on an old post.
The trial camera pictures above were taken November 1st 2016. I killed the buck on November 6th 2017.
Going by body characteristics and skull plate thickness we estimated this buck at 6 years old+.

Re: Coyote pistol kill!

WTG! Thought this was going to be a thread about someone shooting a scoped Contender or something in .223. But to kill one with with your carry gun is very cool. That is some nice shooting right there. Thanks for the comments men, glad I can share this hunt with you. One cool thing was ho...

Coyote pistol kill!

Sunday 9-23-18 afternoon 3pm CST I'm walking to my trail camera to switch SD cards when a doe runs down the hollow past me about 40 yards, within seconds I see a coyote running down her trail so I pull out my Ruger LCP Custom .380 and think I'm gonna try to kill this varmint. I start calling to him ...

Your gobblers head is very realistic, great paint job. Most mounted gobblers have to much red IMO but this one looks like the real thing.

Re: Question for the guru’s

As everyone else has said your hunting buddy should try a .410 with TSS.
For added recoil protection he could add a limbsaver to the gun.
Can't blame him for wanting to hunt hope he does well.

Re: Green Swamp WMA in Florida

The Green Swamp sounds like a tough place to kill a gobbler and the numbers don't lie. If I read the 2018 harvest report correctly there were 44 turkeys killed. The swamp consists of 50,000 acres. Again I could be wrong but those are the numbers I saw. I couldn't tell how many hunters there were the...

Im reloading tss 8.5 and i just want to get my moneys worth out of it. gobbler 83 save your money and spend it on shot and components vs. deep cleaning supplies, this is just my opinion...

Re: What turkey gun?

Is there any advantage with a 3" 12 over a 3" 20 other then pellet count? pellet count mostly 12 gauge vs 20 gauge is a common discussion lots of opinions on this and many like a 20 over a 12. This of course is based on shooting TSS. Really TSS in a 20ga is plenty. I normally shoot a 12ga and just ...

Re: How was your season?

Below average season between TN and Ky. Bird numbers down in both states especially TN. TN hunting pressure less than last year KY pressure increased slightly. Had 6 tags between the 2 states fortunate to have killed 2 mature 3 yr. old+ gobblers (one in each state). Killed both with 2oz #9 12ga plan...

Re: Options to replace Dura finish

Another option is to call Winchester customer service and explain your situation, they may offer to replace the affected parts. I have a used Browning Gold with dura camo finish that someone previously used gun oil or something on the dura finish which made it extremely sticky. I got a deal on the g...

Re: why 9 over 8 tss?

Hey DIRTNAP 2.50oz #8 has 635 pellets and #9 has 905 pellets so you gain 270 pellets with 9's assuming 362/oz. I load and shoot 9's but load 8's for a few buddies that are sold on 8's all in the 12ga. From first hand experience I don't see a huge advantage of 8's over 9's in the 12. My buddies shoot...

Re: Are turkeys going the way of the quail

I heard Eddie Salter talk about this recently at a local sporting goods store in Kentucky. He made a good point, he said that insects are a large part of a wild turkeys diet and now days a lot of pesticides are being sprayed in fields where they weren't before. He specifically mentioned Alabama wher...

Well at 704 am girlfriend layed one out with 1187 with factory full at around 40 yds. 1187 20ga may be on the heavy side but there is not much recoil with them.
That'll work congratulations!
The 870 weighs 6.5lbs and has a little recoil shooting 3" 1-5/8oz but nothing like the 8lb9oz 12ga.

Re: Remington 870 20ga factory full

I tried the factory full and IC .555 shooting bead POI is a little low/right but huntable. Factory full did okay didn't count numbers but decent kinda open. The IC .555 put 270's/10 at 40 didn't count 20" but looked good. This is Hals Big 20 NC Speed at 55 yards with IC .555 got 177/10. This is back...

Re: Vortex Venom performance when wet?

The link took me to a video of the Trijicon RMR. There is a video of a Venom being submerged in a barrel of water with no problems afterwards. From what I've read the Vortex is waterproof with o ring protection, the Burris FF3 is too I believe. I'm curious about real hunting experiences in the eleme...
