Re: Shooting hen turkeys
Don't mean to ruffle any feathers but what is the difference in shooting a hen or gobbler or jake? Guess what it all tastes the same. If the game is legal then by all means. If your are a trophy hunter which it sounds like most are then a bearded hen would be the cream of the crop? Would you say sho...

Re: Mossberg Super Bantam 20 gauge turkey gun?
This is what my dad runs and he drops them in their tracks every time. He has added a 25 dollar red dot sight with a 11 dollar pictanny mount both from amazon and with #9 TSS loads from hawglips(Hal on this site) shot through a Indian creek black diamond choke I would put it up against almost any gu...

Re: Experiencing a lull
We hunt in Buckingham, VA a little away from where you are but we have been hearing roost gobbling every time we have been out but they get pretty quiet when they hit the ground. My brother and I have been lucky enough to get a bird each on the ground but both of them have been after they break off ...

Re: Ghost blinds
Just a heads up I have owned and used ghost blinds for several seasons. I have the large one and the runner version as well. They do best when you can have some brush in front of them. Make sure you try them out in different situations where you are going to hunt because the sun can glare off of the...

Re: Chufa- Is it worth it?
I have planted Chufa several times specifically for turkeys and I will give you my experiences: 1st time: I also live in VA and at the time we had a lease in Appomattox VA. We planted the chufa in mid spring because of the long growth time. By the time the fall season came around the grass had grown...

Re: TSS #3 shot on coyote crossbow video.
Bob,
I just watched the furtakers episode where you hammered 4 coyotes on one sit all within 20 yards of the caller and that was simply amazing. Al was so pumped up after 3 coyotes and started going crazy and you told him to keep it down and the 4th came in right after that.
Keep up the great work!

Re: Thanks to the pioneers of Tss!
Yes, thank you to all of these guys. I have bought shot from Hal and he got me started on some awesome loads and plenty of TSS for turkeys. The cool thing is I got so into TSS I started using it for deer loads as well. Hal was able to get me setup on that end and some nasty loads as well. I was able...

We just tried the Paqui One chip challenge (http://paqui.com/onechipchallenge/) last night and you wan't to talk about hot. I am not a big super hot chili fan but I don't mind a jalapeno or pepperoncini here and there. But that single chip is so over the top it should be illegal. Its a single tortil...

Re: Flextone Thunder Chick
The new flextone series is pretty nice. I picked up the flextone jake to fill in a set to go with a extra dsd hen. The jake is decent but no where the visual quality or size of the avian-x jake. The hens are closer to the avian-x hens then the jake is for sure. For half of the price it is pretty dif...

Those are unreal. Feel sorry for the birds in that area! They are probably like the king is dead and the party started after that one went down.

Ole One Spur the Wet Public Land Gobbler
Glad I talked myself into going out in the nastiness this morning. My dad and I went out to some public land this morning for a little pain and suffering in the rain. We had went out yesterday afternoon and did some scouting in the rain. We walked a good ways in several different areas and finally f...

My Dad's First Spring Gobbler
My dad has been working to get his first gobbler on the ground for a couple of years now. He has hunted for a long time but never hunted for gobblers until I started hunting them hard a couple of years ago. He has definitely put in his time and it finally paid off. I went with him the Friday before ...

Re: i have onle one rule if you hunt with me.
Just to give everyone a small piece of knowledge. Did you know a jake tastes the same as a gobbler maybe better? Just like a yearling doe tastes as good as a Boone and Crockett buck. Just letting you guys know in case this was the reason you wouldn't shoot a jake. If your a trophy hunter then have a...

Great job guys. Beautiful birds! You scared the gobblers in the area so much you were able to train that one to stand and pose with the two you already shot in fear for his life. What kind of decoy is that?

Re: Virginia Opener!
We did hear some gobbles but no turkeys wanted to play today in Buckingham. My brother had one gobbling in the tree around 6:25 a.m. and then another around 7:00 a.m. but was unable to get them away from his hens or close the distance. I heard a bird gobbling that started around 6:50 a.m. but wouldn...
