Re: Overcoming fear

We had horses growing up. Had my own as a kid. Several years back we rented some for a ride with the girls when they were teens. Mine was fine until we got to the creek crossing. He turned and headed back to the barn. Nothing I could do would stop him, and I knew what to do...or so I thought. I teen...

Re: if money was no object.

I'm sure there would be other things, but I'd commission a titanium frame gobbler lounger that only weighs 2 pounds.

So my hired gun/vest bearer could keep up with me as we trekked through turkey woods all over the US. :)

Re: Gas or Inertia?

The older I get, the more I appreciate the lighter recoiling gas guns. Winchester SX3 20 gauge kills turkey and ducks just fine and is a sweet shooter.
I break out the Beretta 390 and some quality ammo if going for geese.

I've never watched an entire episode, but the Ancient Alien guy always opens with whatever topic/location, "Could it have been built by aliens?"

I'm pretty sure he thinks aliens built most of the world and still make Keebler cookies.

Only you can answer your question, but don't let any sense of guilt for leaving be any part of it. You've done your part for your country with 8 years service if it ends there. That helicopter mechanic training could pay pretty well in a civilian military contractor gig or just plain civilian life. ...

Re: Mouth Calls vs Friction Calls and Trumpet style calls

I'm a died in the wool mouth caller who killed his last four turkeys with pot calls. It's good to have a different sound to offer the toms. I've killed a few using a box call, including my first bird. I have a trumpet or two but I'm not confident enough to take them to the woods.

You always did make a pretty call and I see it hasn't changed. Nice!
That copper top almost looks dished out around the edge, like it's higher on the outer edge. Is that just the photo?

Re: What pot call do I need to buy right now

Not being an avid pot call user and never having owned a custom call, I looked through all these recommendations. I realized that Lights Out is right in my county here in Arkansas. I called up Wendell and will be going to check out his shop next week. Small World. I don't know enough to buy a call ...

It's close enough I would go if I didn't have to be at work so dang early Wednesday. A two hour drive home after would just put me in bed too late.

I really like my SX3. Had to get the trigger done, it had burrs or something. Sometimes it was dang near impossible to fire. Smith polished it and it's great.

Re: How was your season?

The Bama trip produced only one bird, but it was a blast. Locally I heard more gobblers on my lease property than I've ever heard in one season. I had multiple gobblers sounding off at every part I went to, and I covered almost the entire lease before I filled my one tag on day 11. I saw five jakes ...

You have had some slow hunting.
By comparison, I spent about 15 mornings in my home woods between me and the grandsons hunting, and we heard three or more different gobblers each day. We conversed with birds every day.
You may need some more turkeys! :compress:

How does it work bringing the meat, spurs, cape or tailfan back to the US? Does the outfitter set that all up?
