Re: Beginner lessons from today
Toms frequently go silent as they approach. As for how much to call, let him tell you. If he likes it a lot and is moving to you, call. If he doesn't seem real interested, call a bit less. Kind of feel him out. When in doubt, call less often. Do some small stuff. Very light clucks, leaf scratching t...

Yes, it can help. Especially if you add some brush to it. Hang some small leafy branches on it and put some bigger ones in front.

Re: Free Rain water
We got about 5" earlier this week. I will probably mow my yard tomorrow afternoon. We can handle quite a bit of rain. 50 miles away, a small town got about 18" in two days. They had some real flooding. Rain now, but be nice for my opening week next week please!

I saw them calling in the prelims at Nashville. Thought enough of their calling that I tried their calls. They make a good mouth call. Raspy, I like 'em.

Re: Nashville Pickups
: Picked up a few different brands of mouth calls. The Dead End callers in the contests all sounded superb so I bought a three pack of their calls. After looking for a vestless alternative I picked up an Alps sling pack to try this spring. Some pants on sale from Roger’s sporting goods and some Apex...

I do. Don't want to ruin a whole hunting trip because of a gun breaking.
My backup is an inexpensive single shot, but I hear good things about the new 870's. Hard to beat a classic like that.

Bought an SX3 and had to have the 12 lb trigger that sometimes just locked up and wouldn't pull lightened by a gunsmith. It ain't just Mossberg. At least they have a cheap fix.

Re: Nwtf convention
Fiddlers Inn is across the street and much cheaper. The Gaylord is nice but high dollar.
I think I’m staying a block or two away at Best Western (maybe?). Wife booked it.
Parking at the convention is outrageous. Think I read it’s up to $40 per day. Stay close and walk if you can.

Re: Hearing protection
I have hearing loss so I have taken to carrying hearing protection when I hunt deer and pigs. Protect what you got whenever you can! For turkey hunting, I bought Tetra turkey hearing enhancement last spring. What a difference they make in hearing gobbles!! As a bonus, they do a fair amount of shot m...
